The ultimate Peter Lehmann Wines expression of Barossa Shiraz. Stonewell is an internationally acclaimed Shiraz made from the finest, most concentrated fruit of each vintage. Stonewell Shiraz is marked by intense flavour, strength, opulence, a velvety finish and remarkable longevity.

Winery notes (2012 Vintage)
"Stonewell Shiraz – first made in 1987 – has one guiding principle: to be Peter Lehmann’s best shiraz of vintage. The name Stonewell was chosen in recognition of the high quality shiraz grapes being grown around Stonewell Road in the Marananga district of the Barossa.

While the winery owns a vineyard called Stonewell in this district, the grapes for Stonewell Shiraz are not limited to this one vineyard and come from individual growers in a number of Barossa sub-districts, particularly those to the west and the north where hard dry soils give rise to low-yielding shiraz of great quality.

This limited release Stonewell shows a deep, black centre with loads of dark, plummy fruit and a touch of chocolate and aniseed. The palate is richly structured with fine tannins and a long, persistent finish ensuring that the wine will drink beautifully over the next 5-10 years."

92+/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, December 2016 (2012 Vintage)
"Stonewell is the top tier wine from Peter Lehmann and it matures in French oak for 15 months – the fruit comes from varied vineyard sites, but is, allegedly, sorted for best fruit appropriate to this wine. A stalwart of Australian fine wine.

Took a while to reveal a better version of the wine but it certainly has charm from the start. Strong scent of dark roast coffee beans, sauna wood, black currants, sweet clove spice and Indian ink. It’s oaky in perfume, but not in an astringent way; feels welcoming. The palate is surprisingly tight and in a way a touch unfriendly, comparatively. Lavish dark berry fruit is a feature with pleasing concentration. The wine is full in sinewy tannin, and there is a grittiness to texture that finishes in mocha powder pucker and a lick of lemony bitterness. Structure wise, it should cellar well, but fruit is hidden under oak and tannin presently."
