From the multi-award winning Peregrine winery in Central Otago, Saddleback Pinot Noir 2020 is in fine form. Crafted from a mix of Bendigo, Pisa and Gibbston fruit it is showing bright fresh aromas of red and black berries, florals and a touch of spice. On the palate it moves into dark fruits melding with savoury elements of spice and herb giving lovely balance and persistence.
Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Strawberry, raspberry and floral aromas combine with subtle brown spice and a hint of thyme. A pure expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir. A luscious and fruit focused Pinot Noir with great flavour and soft supple tannins.
Harvested in Central Otago – Bendigo, Gibbston and select Cromwell basin sites. The mild summer combined with classic large diurnal shifts in autumn led to a long ripening period giving great complexity and concentration to the fruit. Mostly destemmed with a small portion of whole cluster fermentation, and 10 months maturation in older French oak."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, March 2022 (2020 Vintage)
"It's enticing and beautifully aromatic on the nose showing dark plum, sweet cherry, thyme and subtle mushroom aromas, leading to a soothing palate that's succulent and fleshy. Generous and elegant at the same time with plenty of tasty flavours. At its best: now to 2026."
