From the multi-award winning Peregrine winery in Central Otago, Saddleback Pinot Noir 2018 is in fine form. Crafted from mostly Pisa and Gibbston fruit it is showing bright fresh aromas of red and black berries, florals and a touch of spice. On the palate it moves into dark fruits melding with savoury elements of spice and herb giving lovely balance and persistence.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Bright red berry and savoury aromas on the bouquet. A lovely soft palate with raspberry and redcurrant flavours and a hint of thyme. This is a wonderful expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir. A luscious and fruit focused Pinot Noir with great flavour and lovely soft tannin.
The grapes for this wine was grown in the Bendigo (43%), Pisa (29%), and Gibbston (28%) sub-regions of Central Otago. The fruit for this wine was 100% destemmed and spent 10 months in older French oak."

5 Stars, Top 10 & Best Buy, Cuisine Pinot Noir Tasting, April 2019 (2017 Vintage)
"A rich and warm style with some vibrant alpine-herbal notes supported by plum, cherry and exotic spices. The structure is juicy yet with wonderfully polished and enduring tannins."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"Offering good value, the 2017 vintage is a blend of Pisa (50 per cent), Bendigo (39 per cent) and Gibbston (11 per cent) grapes, matured in seasoned French oak barrels. Full-coloured, it is mouthfilling and fruit-packed, with strong, plummy, spicy flavours, gentle tannins and lots of drink-young charm. Best drinking mid-2019+."
NZIWS (2016 Vintage)
"Concentrated and bright with a full bouquet and a juicy, generous, fine-textured velvety taste with touches of cherry chocolate, harmonious savoury oak and a bright spicy allure."
93/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Red cherry scents, whiffs of garrigue, pepper, brambles. Leaner, fresher expression but with fine trim of tannins and succulence in tow. Fine boned and frisky, just on cusp of ripeness feel. Elegance and restraint are good words here. This has some good presence in glass. Like."
