70% Sauvignon Blanc & 30% Sémillon
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Variable conditions over flowering resulted in a moderate fruit set. The subsequent warm summer then allowed the grapes to ripen beautifully. Naturally smaller berry size and loose open bunches helped accelerate ripening, allowing us to pick the fruit a little earlier this season than usual.
The colour is pale lemon with aromas of citrus blossom, lemon, gooseberry and passionfruit. There is also a hint of struck match complexity arising from skin contact during fermentation. The Semillon component helps fill out the palate, adding fruit weight, richness and age-ability, while also acting to restrain the exuberance of the sauvignon blanc. While the lees contact has added texture and body, the wine remains focussed, with a crisp refreshing acidity that emphasises its mineral notes."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"This distinctive Waipara, North Canterbury wine is concentrated and complex, with loads of personality. It is typically a 70:30 blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, partly (35 per cent) fermented and matured in French oak barrels. From vines over 30 years old, the 2017 vintage is bright, light yellow/green, with a complex bouquet. Crisp, full-bodied and dry (0.9 grams/litre of residual sugar), it is a youthful, very vigorous wine, with ripe tropical-fruit flavours, a subtle seasoning of oak, fresh acidity, and a tightly structured, lasting finish. Best drinking 2021+."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, January 2020 (2017 Vintage)
"Gorgeously complex and engaging, the bouquet shows grapefruit, kaffir lime, flint, toasted almond and lemon peel aromas, leading to a concentrated palate that's vibrant and richly textured at the same time. It's opulent and powerful with bright acidity, finishing impressively long and mouth-watering. At its best: now to 2025."
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2019 (2017 Vintage)
"An alluring bouquet of white fleshed fruits and fresh green herbs, but then again it’s also tropical fruits and crushed limestone with a whisper of salty air – this is the juxtaposition in action. A very clever bouquet. It is also intense and familiar, seductive and charming. On the palate delicious wine with a core of fruit, vibrant texture with abundant acidity and long steely finish. Drink now and through 2026+."

93/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Nice perfume that runs with green herb, peas, lemon and lime, faint tropical fruits. Tart and tight in the palate, really racy style, light chalkiness, good stretch of flavour, zesty and clean. Quiet complexity. Exceptional length actually. Very good."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Raymond Chan, December 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Bright straw-yellow colour with lemon hues, a little lighter on the edge. The nose is firmly concentrated and beautifully proportioned with elegant, but intensely concentrated aromas of green stonefruits, nectarines and greengages along with gooseberry notes, exotic lantana and florals, and a subtle layer of nutty lees and oak. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate is vibrant with a finely concentrated core of integrated flavours of green stonefruits, gooseberries, fresh herbs and subtle notes of lees and oak. providing complexing detail. The fruit has richness and lusciousness and flows along a fine-textured line, providing phenolic guidance, with fresh, gentle acidity lending vitality. The wine carries to a soft, mouthwatering finish. This is an elegant, vibrant, finely concentrated oak-influenced Sauvignon/Semillon blend with stonefruit, gooseberry and herb flavours with complexing nutty detail on a fine-textured palate. Match with herb-marinated seafood, poultry, pork and veal over the next 4 years. A blend of approx. 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon, the Sauvignon Blanc predominantly fermented in stainless-steel with a small portion in new French oak, the Semillon in barrel, to 14.0% alc. and dryness, the wine aged 10 months on lees."
