Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Settled weather during December provided optimal conditions for flowering. A very hot summer then enabled the grapes to ripen beautifully. Free draining stony soil helped mitigate the effects of some late summer rain, and the ensuing dry autumn meant the fruit was able to be picked in excellent condition.
On release the colour is lemon-straw. The bouquet is an alluring potpourri of zesty citrus and green apple, interwoven with spice, perfume, floral notes and a mineral core. The palate is rich and supple, with elegant poise and a textured mouthfeel. A refreshing whip of acidity adds length and ensures the wine’s off-dry finish is harmoniously balanced. There is a lovely freshness on the close that creates liveliness and a pleasing tension."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2018 Vintage)
"An alluring bouquet of flowers and fruits, perfume, mineral and loaded with charm. Mandarin and apple, citrus peel and lemon barley sugar, quiet yet persistent seam of stony minerality. Complex, youthful and enticing. On the palate – dry, spicy, fruity, textured and fruity. Flavours of mandarin and lime, lemon and apple, citrus peel and flowers. The seam of mineral remains constant as do the flavours of citrus and orchard fruits, spice and honeysuckle. Balanced, crisp, a lovely mouthfeel and lengthy finish. Drink now and through 2026+."

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"Classy stuff. Estate-grown at Waipara, in North Canterbury, in top vintages it is richly fragrant and thrillingly intense, with flavours of citrus fruits and honey, complex and luscious. Based on mature vines and stop-fermented in a distinctly medium style, it breaks into full stride at about three years old and can mature well for a decade. The 2017 vintage is bright, light yellow/green, with a gently honeyed bouquet. Concentrated, with gentle sweetness (21 grams/litre of residual sugar), it has lush stone-fruit flavours, a hint of honey and good acid spine. Best drinking 2021+."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"This is irresistibly delicious; the gloriously expressed bouquet shows mandarin, mango, honey, mixed spice and rich floral aromas, leading to a sumptuous palate that displays excellent depth and intensity, wonderfully enhanced by charming sweetness and refreshing acidity. It is mouthfilling and lavish, while remaining balanced and harmonious. Style: Medium. At its best: now to 2026."

"Ripe lime and lemon fruits with some candied glacé citrus are cast across flinty and stony aromas. The palate has a long, fluid build of concentrated citrus and stone fruit flavours. Terrific depth."
18.5/20 Joelle Thomson, March 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"North Canterbury is one of the world’s great Riesling regions due to its high sunshine hours, hot summers and long cool autumns, which allow grapes to hang out on the vines and gain intense ripeness. To call this wine ‘iconic’ is to wildly understate the greatness of both the region and of winemaker Mat Donaldson and his incredibly talented team."
5 Stars & 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Rich, concentrated and flavoursome riesling in a medium-dry style with lime, honey, mango and apricot flavours. Less botrytis influence than usual, which means more focus on varietal flavours. Sweetness is balanced by fruity acidity and fine tannins. A powerful wine with character."
94/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"Bright lemon-lime blossom aromas joined by faint honey, talc, blackcurrant scents. Palate is energized and tight, you see the loll of sweet riesling fruit but acidity is a bustle of chalkiness and firmness, really driving the wine, tight and long, energetic. So fresh. Such intensity. Drink in 20 years. Yew!"
