Pegasus Bay Riesling is arguably the wine that put Waipara on the map. It's a classic and always delivers. Perfect at anytime of the day – it just makes you feel good.

Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Warm and settled weather during flowering led to a very large initial set. Fruit thinning was then undertaken to bring the crop back to the desired level. A perfect summer, followed by a warm dry autumn enabled the subsequent grapes to be harvested with excellent flavour development and physiological ripeness.

The colour is lemon-straw. On the nose there is an abundance of citrus, particularly the orange zest that so defines North Canterbury Rieslings. There are also hints of red apple and apricot, layered with honeysuckle and guava. The extended hang time has added concentration to the palate, together with ripe phenolics that give structure and length. Despite its body, the wine still has a crisp and refreshing acidity that matches its off-dry finish perfectly."

"Classy stuff. Estate-grown at Waipara, in North Canterbury, in top vintages it is richly fragrant and thrillingly intense, with flavours of citrus fruits and honey, complex and luscious. Based on mature vines and stop-fermented in a distinctly medium style, it breaks into full stride at about three years old and can mature well for a decade. The 2016 vintage makes a powerful statement. Showing lovely richness and poise, it is bright, light lemon/green, with concentrated, peachy, citrusy, slightly spicy flavours, moderate sweetness, lively acidity, and a very harmonious, lasting finish."

5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"This is irresistibly delicious; the gloriously expressed bouquet shows mandarin, mango, honey, mixed spice and rich floral aromas, leading to a sumptuous palate that displays excellent depth and intensity, wonderfully enhanced by charming sweetness and refreshing acidity. It is mouthfilling and lavish, while remaining balanced and harmonious. Style: Medium. At its best: now to 2026."

93/100 Nick Stock,, November 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Ripe lime and lemon fruits with some candied glacé citrus are cast across flinty and stony aromas. The palate has a long, fluid build of concentrated citrus and stone fruit flavours. Terrific depth."

18.5/20 Joelle Thomson, March 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"North Canterbury is one of the world’s great Riesling regions due to its high sunshine hours, hot summers and long cool autumns, which allow grapes to hang out on the vines and gain intense ripeness. To call this wine ‘iconic’ is to wildly understate the greatness of both the region and of winemaker Mat Donaldson and his incredibly talented team."

Reviews for the 2015 vintage below…

5 Stars & 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Rich, concentrated and flavoursome riesling in a medium-dry style with lime, honey, mango and apricot flavours. Less botrytis influence than usual, which means more focus on varietal flavours. Sweetness is balanced by fruity acidity and fine tannins. A powerful wine with character."

5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Raymond Chan, March 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Bright straw-yellow colour with green-gold hues, lighter on the edge. The nose os fresh with softly presented aromas of lime and lemon fruit with subtle notes of tangerines, herbs and jasmine florals, unveiling suggestions of lime marmalade, honeysuckle and musk. The aromatics form a rounded, but concentrated core. Medium-dry to medium in taste and medium-bodied, the palate features softly rich and luscious flavours of lime, lemon and tangerines with yellow florals, lime marmalade, honey and subtle musk notes. The fruit richness is restrained in expression and balanced by a very fine phenolic thread and lacy, refreshing acidity providing linearity and flow. The wine carries smoothly to an elegant, long lingering finish. This is an elegantly rich and luscious medium Riesling with lime, lemon and marmalade flavours with jasmine floral, honeysuckle and musk detail, and a fine-textured, refreshing palate. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 5+ years. Late-picked fruit with 5% botrytis infection, cool-fermented to 12.5% alc. and 26 g/L RS, TA 7.3 g/L."

94/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2015 Vintage)
"Very aromatic bouquet with white blossoms, grapefruit and apple aromas, a touch of white spice and lime cordial note. On the palate – very fresh, lively – dancing on the palate with a spritz note; high acidity contrasts a moment of residual sugar before the return of citrus, apple and floral flavours, long finish; a lovely example. Drink now and through 2028."

94/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"Bright lemon-lime blossom aromas joined by faint honey, talc, blackcurrant scents. Palate is energized and tight, you see the loll of sweet riesling fruit but acidity is a bustle of chalkiness and firmness, really driving the wine, tight and long, energetic. So fresh. Such intensity. Drink in 20 years. Yew!"
