Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Unsettled weather over flowering resulted in a lighter than average set, meaning that no further fruit thinning was necessary. The subsequent warm summer then allowed the grapes to ripen beautifully, followed by autumn conditions that were favourable for the onset of botrytis.
The wine is pale gold in colour, reflecting the fruit’s extended hang time. Its bouquet reveals an intoxicating melange of beeswax, peach, honeysuckle, lychee, dried fig and exotic spice. Due to the varietal intensity of Gewurtz, some additional winemaking techniques have been employed to give the wine extra complexity. Skin contact and fermenting with solids provide increased structure and a subtle hint of struck match, while the oak aging and lees contact adds mouth feel. On the palate it is rich and unctuous, with ripe phenolics and a lingering aftertaste of fresh ginger that complement the wine’s off-dry finish."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Oribt, January 2020 (2017 Vintage)
"It's splendidly fruited and richly expressed on the nose showing golden peach, mango, lychee and orange peel aromas with nuances of Turkish Delight, flint and fragrant spice. The palate offers terrific fruit power and intensity together with velvety mouthfeel and elegant sweetness backed by refreshing acidity, making it irresistibly delicious. At its best: now to 2025."
94/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2017 Vintage)
"Bold, precise and pungent aromatics of Gewürztraminer with suggestions of tropical fruits and red apples, pineapple, fresh lychee and white peach. There’s plenty of spice with fragrances of baking spice and sweet herbs then wild flowers and white rose. A weighty, rich, creamy and very engaging example with focus and concentration, flavours that reflect the nose, decent acid line and long finish. Drink now and through 2022+."

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Grown at Waipara and fermented with indigenous yeasts in large old barrels, the outstanding 2016 vintage was made from 'very ripe' grapes, with 'some noble botrytis'. Powerful (14.5 per cent alcohol), it has a beautifully perfumed, spicy bouquet, leading into a weighty wine with rich, well-spiced flavours, vague sweetness, gentle acidity, and unusual complexity and harmony. Highly expressive in its youth, it's already delicious."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Raymond Chan, December 2016 (2016 Vintage)
"Bright, light golden-yellow colour with good depth, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is full and voluminous with, bold, up-front and deep aromas of ripe tropical and exotic fruits, with lychees, root ginger and minerals, along with musk, Turkish Delight and honied elements. Medium-dry to taste, the palate has mouthfilling flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits, exotic tropical fruits and root ginger layered with Turkish Delight, musk and honied notes, forming a deep, well-packed heart. The palate has weight and presence with the lush flavours balanced and driven by alcohol power and enriched by the warmth. The acidity is integrated, lending some roundness to the mouthfeel, and the wine exudes a subtle unctuousness. The alcohol power and fruit richness carry the wine to a strong, sustained, sweet and savoury, spicy, aromatic finish. This is a rich and luscious, weighty and powerful medium-dry Gewurztraminer with exotic fruit, root ginger and musk flavours with some alcoholic power and drive. Match with Middle Eastern and Chinese cuisine over the next 4+ years. Late-picked fruit with some botrytis, given some skin contact and fermented in seasoned oak to 14.5% alc. and approx. 15.0 g/L RS."
94/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Good bouquet of green apples, stone fruit, honey toast, a bit of mushroomy funk. Concentrated flavours in the palate, quite assertive but holds a good shape, apples, honey, toastiness, but all in control and well meshed. Serious power and drive. Blow your hair back. Fantastic."
92/100 James Suckling (2016 Vintage)
"Plenty of flinty rose water and luscious tropical fruits. The cool lychee palate is a thing of real beauty. Jasmine and rose water florals linger playfully."
