Gold Medal – Clare Valley Wine Show 2020
Established in 1983 by Neil and Alison Paullet, in the beautiful Clare Valley sub-region of Polish Hill, Paullets remains a family run winery. Early on they established a vineyard restaurant as they always believed that their wines should match food and the wines always have a sense of drinkability about them.. makes sense.
Winery Notes (2018 Vintage)
"Our award-winning, medium bodied 2018 Polish Hill River Shiraz is free driven and full of dark fruit flavours and chocolate. The fine textured tannins and lovely soft oak influence make this Clare Valley Regional Red a perfect match for food but also mellow enough to enjoy on its own. Oak Maturation: 15 months in French & American Oak.
Aromas are dark fruited featuring plum, dark cherry and blackberry. Underlying charry oak and hints of graphite. The palate is full bodied, rich and fleshy, highlighted by dark fruits and spice through the mid palate. Underlying choc mint with firm tannins and a long structured finish."

"A really impressive cool-climate Shiraz. The quality of the wines at Paulett is well worth embracing. Here we have another smart release.Of the samples recently reviewed, the approachability is what stands out to me about these wines. They are not over complicated wines. They don't walk to a pretentious beat. They just satisfy in the best way possible.
Mint, some meatiness, dark berries and blackberry fruit. A touch of cedar rears its head too. Over a few days of tasting it softened beautifully. Wonderfully balanced, there is a soothing presence about the way it speaks. Well-integrated oak and laced with soft spices, I could get awfully comfortable with this wine. And perhaps I did. Great stuff."
92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, May 2022 (2018 Vintage)
"Classic bouquet of ripe raspberry and black currant fruit scents, pepper and vanilla led baking spices. Youthful, fleshy and luscious on the palate with a core of fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. Moderate tannins and a back bone of acidity. A lengthy finish with a light sweet fruit note, a touch of violet and moderate toasty wood flavours. Well made and ready to drink from 2022 through 2026+."
