50% Pinot Noir & 50% Chardonnay
Champagne P. Louis Martin – established 1864 – is at Montagne de Reims in Bouzy. It’s a small 10 hectare estate and the wines are only made from estate-grown fruit and, therefore, it classifies as “grower”.
Winery notes (NV)
“Pale yellow colour, fine bubbles. A fresh nose with grapefruit aromas backed by cereal notes (bread, wheat, barley). A fresh attack. The palate is structured, with plummy aromas and a subtle touch of chalk.”
5 Stars & 18.5-/20 Raymond Chan, November 2017 (NV)
“Bright, light straw-yellow colour, pale edged and with moderately persistent and fine bead. The bouquet is full and well-concentrated with a harmonious amalgam of yellow stonefruits and bready-yeasty, brioche-like autolysis. The aromatics are expressed with clarity, presence and with subtle complexing interest. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has clear and positive fresh apple and stonefruit flavours intermingling with fine bready-yeasty autolysis in the background, The flavours form a good heart, the dosage adding a perceptible richness, and the mouthfeel is refreshing and balanced, with a creamy mousse and bright acidity. The wine flows along a fine-textured line leading to a sustained finish of stonefruits and yeasty autolysis. This is a well-concentrated and harmoniously balanced , refreshing Champagne showing good Pinot Noir presence and clarity with fine autolytic interest. Serve as an aperitif and with canapés. It will also match a variety of fish and white meat dishes A blend of 50% each Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, fermented to 12.0% alc.”
Sue Courtney, wineoftheweek.com, May 2017 (NV)
“A blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, this is a very stylish, savoury, yeasty, style of bubbles all the way through. It has an attractive baking bread scent and the complex flavours offer up green grape and lemony tones, just ripe peach and a salivating, crisp, dry and ever so slightly salty finish. Primes the palate for the evening ahead in the nicest possible way.”
4 Stars Cuisine $100 & Under Champagne Tasting, November 2017 (NV)
“This small grower label is located in Bouzy on the Montagne de Reims, home to the greatest pinot noir site in the region. This non-vintage wine is 50/50 pinot noir-chardonnay and offers attractive yeasty, nutty, soy sauce complexity around a yellow fruit core. A round, graceful style.”
Decanter 2016 (NV)
“Vibrant aromas of fresh apple, citrus and peach fruits on the nose. A subtle and gently fragrant palate that is dry and stylish.”
