This is the 'new' release of the continually popular Waipara Selection. The Omihi Hills label was originally created as a partnership between vineyard owner Gwyn Williams, winemaker Theo Coles and marketer Ben Coles. Basically a 'side project', the wines have never been fully exposed to the market place and are a Christchurch Pinot lovers 'hidden treasure'. This 2014 is an excellent release with great depth of flavour – quite savoury in style with both generosity and depth of flavour. The palate is mellow, supple and satisfying.
Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"The Omihi Hills Waipara Selection Pinot Noir is perfumed, velvet textured and beautifully balanced with integrated mineral acidity. This wine captures the essence of Waipara Valley Pinot Noir.
Planted in 1999 and 2000 the Omihi Hills Vineyards are established on the limestone rich soils of of Omihi, Waipara Valley. Our vineyards are close-planted and hand tendered from pruning to harvest. Our wines are traditionally made to allow maximum expression of these special vineyard sites."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"The 2014 vintage was matured in seasoned French oak barrels. Ruby-hued, it is mouthfilling and supple, with fresh, ripe red-berry and spice flavours, a hint of dried herbs, and a nutty, savoury complexity. It's drinking well now."
