Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"We're truly excited to release this wine. The long hot summer of 2019, provided ideal growing conditions. While always special, this vintage in particular encapsulates everything that makes Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay what it is. Textural with trademark power but not an ounce of heaviness. Impeccable length and shape. Cohesive, sleek and elegant; a wine to remember." Todd Stevens, Winemaker
"Planted in 1978, our Home Block Mendoza has baby roots at nearly four meters deep into our Moutere Clays. In summers like 2019, this depth allows us to continue to dry farm, resulting in a concentrated, refined chardonnay that speaks wonderfully of its place. There is great typicity to this wine.
There are wild summer herbs, gentle white florals and hints of fresh brioche. The cohesion in this Moutere Chardonnay is what makes it special. It has a welcoming curvy mouthfeel but wrapped in a shall of gentle acidity. Not one note is out of line – there is oak entwined with fruit, laced together with oyster shell minerality. A refined and elegant chardonnay with stature and grace. It is an experience to drink and truly lives ups to its reputation as a world class example of this grape."
Rated Excellent & 94/100 Cameron Douglas MS, October 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"An incredibly youthful, precise, mineral and floral centric bouquet. Aromas of fresh white peach and pear, white blossoms and wet stones showing its own smoky edge. There’s a quiet layer yet noted layer of fresh new barrel scents. Equally youthful on the palate with blossoms and mineral flavours leading then citrus, some pith, white fleshed fruit flavours and a balanced judicious use of oak offering a light dusting of wood tannins and hint of toast. Youthful with medium+ acidity and flavours, a very new tasting wine with a premier cru feel. Best drinking from 2021 through 2026+."

5 Stars Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, November 2018 (2018 Vintage)
"The Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay 2018 is a rich, concentrated, mouth-filling chardonnay with a medley of fruit (stewed apple and peach) together with a collection of slightly more savoury flavours including roasted nut, hazelnut, brioche, sizzled butter and struck flint-mineral characters. I find the wine slightly broader and perhaps weightier than usual, although it retains vineyard identity and power. Should cellar well."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"Superbly rich but not overblown, with arrestingly intense flavours enlivened with fine acidity, this multi-faceted Nelson wine enjoys a reputation second to none among New Zealand Chardonnays. Grown in clay soils threaded with gravel at Upper Moutere, it is hand-harvested from mature vines, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and lees-aged, with regular stirring, for a year in French oak barriques (12 per cent new in 2017). Bright, light lemon/green, the very elegant 2017 vintage is a fragrant, lemon-scented, tightly structured wine, still very youthful. It has notably concentrated grapefruit-like flavours, hints of apple and peach, a subtle seasoning of oak, and an appetisingly crisp, very long finish. Best drinking 2021+. Certified organic."
96/100 Tim Atkin MW (2017 Vintage)
"Consistently among New Zealand’s best Chardonnays and a wine that ages extremely well under screwcap. Fresh, elegant and savoury, it has deftly interwoven (12% new) French oak, flavours of citrus and cinnamon, impressive focus and a tangy, mineral-edged core. A very classy, well-judged white. 96 Points."
