Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Grapes for our 2017 Kloof Street red come from eight sustainably farmed vineyard parcels in different parts of the Swartland, aged 12-40 years: Two parcels of Syrah and one parcel of Cinsault in the stony Shale and Schist based soils of Kasteelberg; and one parcel of dry land, bushvine Syrah, one Carignan, one Grenache and a single parcel of gnarly old dry farmed Tinta Barocca bush vine, all in the decomposed Granite of the Paardeberg, and one parcel of Mourvèdre grown on the rolling, iron-rich soils west of Malmesbury.
The fragrant nose has undertones of red fruit, roses and hints of spice. Each variety in the blend adds balance to the wine, filling your palate. Cinsault brings perfume, Carignan brings freshness, Grenache and Tinta Barocca bring tannin, Mourvèdre brings meatiness, and the Syrah ties it all together."

"Beautiful notes of sweet grilled herbs, barbecued and cured meat, fleshy, sappy black berry fruits and tapenade leading to a deliciously distinguished long finish. Real class for the money."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (2017 Vintage)
"The 2017 Kloof Street Rougesoft has a soft, red-fruited nose with structured, softly complex aromas of spice and minerality. The palate is light with a firm structure and red fruit grip. Medium-bodied, the soft cherry and dark plum notes drive the palate with soft red spices, hints of lavender and violets, finishing with a firm tannic grip. This is ready for food. A correct and simple yet complex wine selling at this price Is rarely found. I believe that this wine is underpriced for the quality that it delivers."

"Juicy and peppery aroma. I sense the alcohol initially. But on the palate, the dry fine-grained texture is the star, suffused with black and red fruit. Sweet and juicy but still fresh."
Neal Martin, Vinous (2017 Vintage)
"The 2017 Kloof Street Swartland Rouge, matured for 12 months in used oak, includes a touch of Tinta Barocca. The bright cranberry and raspberry bouquet is slightly earthy. The palate is medium-bodied and a little more assertive than previous vintages, delivering quite firm tannin, good grip and a slightly saline finish that leaves a residue of black pepper. A great value."
Wine Spectator (2017 Vintage)
"A light- to medium-bodied red, featuring strawberry and juniper berry notes, with blood orange acidity. Fresh and vibrant, offering light tannins and fine length. A crowd-pleaser."
