Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Coming from the steepest slopes of Mountford Estate vineyard which are rich in active limestone. This Pinot Noir is cropped very low without irrigation to ensure fruit is extremely concentrated. A portion of whole bunch is used to add another layer of complexity to this already incredible wine. Very floral and delicate on the nose while rich and powerful on the palate followed by subtle smooth tannins."

"From the steepest slopes of Mountford Estate in the Waipara Valley, which have some limestone. This is quite a rich, structured expression of Pinot Noir, with firm tannins under the sweet cherry and berry fruits. There’s some smoothness, as well as notes of tar and roses, and also a significant input from some cedary, spicy oak (100% second fill François Frères barrels). Yes, there’s a bit of make-up here from the oak, but under this there’s amazing finesse to the fruit, with good acidity and structure. It’s already had some time in bottle, but the hope is that with a few more years this wine will really integrate properly."

"The low crop vines for this small, North Canterbury-based estate grow in active limestone soils. Woodsy notes of pine, cedar and spice wander amongst brambly berries, licorice, flowers and vanilla bean. There's lovely lifted acidity on the palate and spicy, fine tannins. The barrel shows, along with more wood-spice flavours, but the fruit is bright and silky. Drink now through 2025."
