Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"This Pinot Gris is grown at our Gibbston vineyard, off the Pagan vineyard of Susie & John Pagan. The soils here are a light layer of loess over a mixture of glacial and river based gravels. Hand harvested in April at around 8 tonnes per hectare. The grapes were whole bunch pressed, fermented at cool temperatures using a mixture of wild and introduced yeasts and fined before filtration.
Pear, spice and citrus aromas are followed by flavours of stonefruit with a delicate creamy like texture, texture is underpinned by mineral notes and refreshing acidity. This wine is dry in style, a delicate style of Pinot Gris that is all about enjoyment, drinking now or at lunch or as an aperitif or whenever …. get some."
93/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, September 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Bold, richer style but with fine cut of lifted acidity and faintest lees-nutty savoury characters. Big on the green pear zone, licks of guava and lychee, floral too. Lots going on. Complex, generous white of quintessential varietal character but delivering and uplifting and more complex experience."
Reviews for the 2018 vintage below…
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"The 2019 vintage is a single-vineyard wine, hand-harvested at Gibbston and fermented in tanks (60 per cent) and old oak casks (40 per cent). Bright, light lemon/green, it is full-bodied, with concentrated, peachy, slightly spicy flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, and a dryish, lively finish. Best drinking 2021+."
