Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Muirkirk vineyard is situated on Felton Road in Bannockburn on a gentle north west sloping corner. This wine is about single site expression, a small limited parcel that shows the true characters of our vineyard within one of Central Otago’s greatest sub regions.
Muirkirk Pinot Noir gives you a very textural wine, plenty of breadth and depth, with slightly darker flavours associated with bannockburn yet with elegance and lightness that our Mount Edward house style brings. An elegant wine, 2016 brings a some smoothness and warmth, whilst still delicate, overall always a wine for people who enjoyed grace over concentration
Holding this wine for 4-5 years will start to see a change pure fruit with light tannins to a savoury and more herb driven wine with a super interesting and more old world than new world style pinot developing. No filtration or fining."

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Grown at Bannockburn, the 2015 vintage was barrel-aged, and bottled without fining or filtration. Full, bright ruby, it is highly fragrant and finely textured. A mouthfilling, youthful, sweet-fruited wine, it has a lovely spread of cherryish, spicy, complex flavours, gentle tannins, and a smooth, long, very harmonious finish. Best drinking 2021+."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"A gorgeous pinot; the sweetly fragrant bouquet shows red/black cherry, dried herb, earthy mushroom and warm spice aromas with hints of cedar and vanilla. The palate is concentrated and refined, and displays excellent fruit purity combined with seductive savoury notes and silky texture, wonderfully framed by seamlessly integrated polished tannins. At its best: now to 2025."
5 Stars & 19.0/20 (95) Raymond Chan, November 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Dark, deep ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues. The nose is softly full and voluminous with rich, ripe lush dark-red fruit aromas and layers of savoury dark herbs, subtle notes of whole bunch and hints of game. Lovely complexities unfolding with interest and detail. On palate quite fulsome with breadth and layers of complex dark-red fruits melded with herb, stalk and savoury elements. An ethereal lifted aspect too. This is supported by considerable fine-grained grip and bright acidity for wonderful balance. Indigenous yeast fermented with 25% whole bunches, the wine aged 11 months in 15% new French oak. Certified BioGro organic."
