Since building their own winery in 2013, the wines of Mount Brown have been going from strength to strength with much show success and great reviews across a number of varieties and, it would seem, an ever growing following out there in the marketplace. The 2022 Pinot Gris is just off-dry in style with plenty of fruit packed into it. Subtle honey notes and cleansing acidity give it great persistence. Delicious drinking and really sharply priced!

Winery notes (2022 Vintage)
"This delicious wine has upfront fruit with lovely pear and peach flavours. Some subtle quince and spice notes add to the complexity.  Some residual sugar (7g) results in a medium-full palate with great texture."

Rated Excellent & 93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, September 2020 (2022 Vintage)
"Plump, ripe, fleshy , fruity and varietal bouquet with aromas of fresh green and yellow pear, a whisper of quince and pacific rose red apple. There’s a spice quality from lees and soils that add complexity and depth. A satin-smooth texture touches the palate first then contrasting acidity and core fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet layers in quickly. A lovely wine ready fro summer 2023 with best drinking from late 2022 through 2025."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2020 Vintage)
"Offering good value, the attractively scented 2022 vintage is delicious young. Medium to full-bodied, it has strong, vibrant, peachy flavours, fresh acidity and an off-dry (7 grams/litre of residual sugar), finely balanced finish."

91/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2022 (2022 Vintage)
"It's splendidly appealing on the nose showing ripe pear, rockmelon, crunchy apple and jasmine aromas, followed by a juicy palate delivering rounded mouthfeel backed by refreshing acidity, making it immediately approachable. At its best: now to 2025."

Rated Top Value & 90/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, March 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"It’s a bright, refreshing pinot gris with classic pear, honeysuckle, stewed apple and subtle clove-like flavours. Made in an off-dry style with a hint of sweetness perfectly balancing fresh acidity. Excellent value at this price."

  • Mount Brown Estates is located in the foothills of Waipara Valley's Mount Brown, in the North Canterbury wine region.
  • From truly humble beginnings (a small abandoned vineyard overgrown with waist-high weeds), Tony Rutherford and his daughter Catherine Keith have since turned their once-daunting vision into reality, now boasting three award-winning vineyards and a winery.
  • Mount Brown Estates keeps their whole process—from grape to bottle—in-house, to be able to ensure desired quality standards. This was made possible when they built their winery and bottling line on the Lime Loader vineyard in 2013.
  • The foundation for their success is built on their gold medal-winning Riesling and Pinot Noir.
  • A wide-ranging recognition is increasingly coming from their Pinot Gris, which is perfectly suited to the North Canterbury terroir.
