Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"All the features that give Moss Wood Chardonnay its distinctiveness are on display. The fruit aromas are of peach, orange marmalade, honeysuckle and quince, plus, of course, the usual roast nuts and oat biscuits. There is a light toasty background from the barrels and a touch of caramel and crème brulee from the malolactic fermentation.
The palate is full bodied with good acidity and tannin but this firm structure is well and truly complemented by the fruit flavours. There is an array of peach, lime, quince and caramel that provide length and breadth and the finish shows some soft, toasty oak and just enough tannin for good cellaring."
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"A stunning rendition of the variety; the exquisitely elegant yet complex bouquet shows white flesh nectarine, fig, lemon pith, nougat and cedar characters with a hint of brioche. The palate delivers terrific weight and persistency, wonderfully complemented by creamy mouthfeel and bright acidity. Beautifully refined and sophisticated. At its best: 2021 to 2030."

"Hugh Mugford thinks that ‘we’re out on our own making ripe Chardonnay in Margaret River’ with this style eclipsed by modern lean styles. I’d argue both have a place, and consumers love this style. Matured in 56% new French oak and it shows – nutty and creamy with an oak signature on nose and palate. Sexy oak and the fruit carries it well, however, so hard to knock the styles. By contrast, the acidity is grippy and firm. Old school oak, but the acidity isn’t. A pretty handy combination and great intensity. Maybe too much oak? Real impact and lusciousness in this style though. Best drinking: Next year to five years plus."
93/100 Cameron Douglas MS, November 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Weighty, creamy, oaky and enticing complex bouquet of Chardonnay. Aromas suggesting grapefruit and nectarine, vanilla and dry stones, some floral moments and cashew nut oak qualities. On the palate – dry, full-bodied, weight, rich and flavourful. Citrus, apple and stone fruit flavours all return with the cashew oak layer becoming stronger as the oak and alcohol remind me this wine requires cellar time. Well made with a complex and lengthy finish. Best drinking from late 2020 through 2025."

99/100 James Halliday, Top 100 Wines 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"It only takes a millisecond to know you are in the presence of vinous royalty. This is a truly beautiful chardonnay, seamless perfection from the first sip. You know there has to be quality oak somewhere in the wine, and know that all the analytical numbers will be a Bo Derek 10. It is liquid gold."
95/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, December 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Golden and rich. It’s full of peach, apple and lime, with plenty of spicy sawn wood and vanilla. Full-bodied, and full of flavour, powerful and quite oaky, but with the fruit to mop it up. Almond and butter gloss cut with firm grapefruity acidity, and a long dry finish that almost feels tannic. Slight warmth through the wine which doesn’t distract from the overall bounty of Chardonnay on offer here. Bold but excellent."
