Mollydooker is the label set up by Sparky and Sarah Marquis in the mid-2000's after involvement with various other SA wineries including Sarah's parents winery, Fox Creek, Their wines quickly caught the attention of Robt. Parker who gave them huge scores – the premium wine, Carnival of Love has scored 99/100 numerous times. The Boxer sits only slightly down the chain. It is big and plush (alcohol just under 16%). Flavours of blueberry, spice and those dark jubes. This is smoothly mouth coating and richly decadent.
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Complex and expressive, the 2017 Boxer exudes vivacity whilst maintaining great length. Bright maraschino cherry, fresh plum, rich dark chocolate and liquorice max out the flavour spectrum. The tannins are fine, the fruit is soft and the flavours tickle the taste buds. Consistently impressive and seriously good, this wine is not short of character."
Review for the 2016 vintage below…
Sue Courtney, wineoftheweek.com, January 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Inky black red – almost impenetrable. The heady bouquet fills the senses with sumptuous chocolatey oak and concentrated black cherry. There a firmness to the tannins but they are fine and ripe. It’s full of succulent fruit and loads of pepper and spice with underling savoury notes and creamy mocha and vanilla on the long and memorable finish. Quite simply mesmerising!"
