94% Viognier, 4% Marsanne & 2% Muscat

The Millton's first planted their Viognier vines in 1997 on the river plains, some of the first in the country and with some 15 vintages behind them, this is a wine that is now really singing. Fermented in a mix of oak and stainlees steel with a portion also with extended skin contact for 80 days. There is a portion of Marsanne and Muscat included. This is a really textured, almost slippery wine, golden autumnal fruits and a distinct briny/umami flavour – a wine with an amazing personality. Perfect wine tings like pork belly and Asian inspired dishes.

Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"The Viognier was harvested by hand, fermented in a mix of 300 litre French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. Included in the final blend is a parcel of Viognier that spent 77 days fermenting on skins in open top 600 litre French oak barrels. In the Rhone Valley of France there are a number of complimentary white grape varietals. The 2015 has the addition of Marsanne to providing an element of depth and richness while 2% Muscat give a fruity lift as well to this wine. A haunting wine with bristling delicacy, buoyed by a noted mineral edge the poached pear and red capsicum flavours give a spiced and sappy appeal. The salinity sings the proximity of the vineyard to its maritime environment. We consider the aromatic delight of Viognier will enhance and partner foods high in Umami flavours."

93/100 Decanter UK, September 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"Bright and vibrant, with stone fruit, apricots and peach jam, supported with wonderful nuances of orange blossom. This is evolving – but it will only get better. Marvellous! Drink 2018-2021."

5 Stars & 18.5+/20 (94) Raymond Chan, July 2017 (2015 Vintage)
Bright yellow colour with pale golden hues, lighter on the rim. This has an elegantly proportioned nose with tightly bound aromas of exotic yellow stonefruits, citrus zest and florals along with apricot notes and hints of saline that form a concentrated core. This is fresh and youthful. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has a firm core of yellow and white stonefruits entwined with exotic tropical fruits, citrus zest, nuances of apricots and saline notes. This has richness and concentration, and a near-unctuousness to the texture, balanced by alcohol cut and acid zestiness. The wine has strong drive, leading to an elegantly proportioned, lingering finish. This is a fine and firmly concentrated Dry Viognier with exotic fruits, citrus zest and florals, with good richness, drive and freshness. Match with pork, veal and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4 years. Hand-picked Viognier fruit from the ‘Riverpoint’ vineyard, vines aged back to 1997, 6% of the wine with 30 days skin-fermented and aged Viognier, along with 4% Marsanne and nearly 2% Muscat, indigenous yeast fermented in 300 L French oak and stainless-steel tanks to 13.6% alc. and 4.0 g/L RS. Certified BioGro organic and certified Demeter biodynamic."

93/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"Ultra fragrant, floral and stone fruits characters, apricot, peach, faint citrus scents. Energetic in the palate, minerally, quite fine boned but has the classic apricotty thing going on too. Nice little vanilla thing to close. Lovely."

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Maturing very gracefully, the 2015 vintage was hand-picked and fermented with indigenous yeasts in tanks and French oak hogsheads. Marsanne was added to the blend, for 'depth and richness', and a splash of Muscat, for a 'fruity lift'. Certified organic, it is fragrant and softly mouthfilling, with rich, ripe, peachy, spicy, slightly toasty flavours, showing very good complexity, gentle acidity, a slightly oily texture, and a dry (4 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. Delicious now."

Yvonne Lorkin, April 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Here’s a lovely mandarin-massaged viognier from the sun-soaked East Coast that you can really wrap your chops around. Perfect to serve with salty, savoury dishes, this organic, biodynamically-grown wine oozes citrus oil, apricot kernel, grapefruit zest and reveals a clean, succulent mouthfeel and a ribbon-like mouthfeel."

17/20 Jancis Robinson, June 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"Mid gold. Certainly varietal, in the floral rather than savoury register. Wonder whether that’s a clonal or geographical thing? Real freshness and grip with a bit of savour and dried apricot on the end and just a touch of bitterness."

Sue Courtney,, September 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"Moderately gold in hue with a bouquet of apricot and honey following through to the rich, oily palate with a bees-waxy sweetness beautifully balanced by a nutty savouriness, a zing of exotic spices and a juicy green melon aftertaste."
