Coming off Mills Reef's Gimblett Gravels Vineyard this gorgeous blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot & 5% Cabernet Franc deservedly took out the Trophy for Champion Cabernet Sauvignon or Blend at the 2018 Royal Easter Show Wine Awards amongst some very tough and well regarded competition. Good effort!

"A rich and brooding wine, this traditional blend exudes intense blackcurrant and brambly blackberry flavours, with cigar box and toasty vanillin oak notes.  Ageing in quality oak has conferred a silky smooth texture, giving this wine immediate appeal,or for judicious cellaring to reward over the medium term."

"Dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on the rim, youthful in appearance. This has an elegantly concentrated and packed nose of ripe plum fruit with blackberries and blackcurrants, unfolding a little cassis with layers of fragrant, spicy oak. Medium-bodied, the palate has a finely concentrated, elegantly packed core of dark-red plum fruit and liquorice with blackcurrants and cassis flavours. The fruit is complexed by a layering of dark herbs and sweet, spicy oak. The flavours are rich and juicy and underlined by fine-grained tannin extraction that provides good linearity, carrying to a lingering finish of blackcurrants, plums and spicy oak. This is an elegant, sweet and juicy fruited Cabernet/Merlot with plum, liquorice and blackcurrant fruit and spicy oak on a finely extracted palate with good linearity. Match with beef and lamb, and Mediterranean cuisine over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of 55.7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39.4% Merlot and 4.9% Cabernet Franc, the fruit from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented with a portion of whole berries to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 36% new French and American oak hogsheads."
