Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"This distinguished Cabernet Sauvignon is made from ultra-premium grapes grown on twenty-one year old vines in our Mere Road Vineyard, located in the celebrated stony Gimblett Gravels district of Hawke’s Bay.
This opulent Cabernet Sauvignon, with its dark brooding presence, exudes distinctive blackcurrant character, laced with aniseed and mocha. Silky smooth tannins and ageing in quality oak contribute poise, structure and length. A distinguished wine, it is eminently enjoyable now or to greatly reward cellaring."
5 Stars Yvonne Lorkin (2016 Vintage)
"Surprisingly soft and accessible cabernet sauvignon with typical cassis, blackcurrant, cedar, cigar box and black olive flavours, plus a generous influence of spicy oak. Drink 2019 to 2024."
4 ½ Stars & Top 5, Cuisine NZ Bordeaux Tasting, June 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"With aromas of warm toast and rich spices this generous wine is well made with dark-red berry fruits and a ripe palate. The texture is long and holds well with the clever use of balanced acidity."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Fragrant, fresh and full-bodied, the 2016 vintage was hand-picked from mature, 21-year-old vines in the company's Mere Road Vineyard, and matured for 17 months in French (90 per cent) and American oak hogsheads (48 per cent new). Likely to be at its best from 2022 onwards, it has strong, vibrant, well-ripened blackcurrant and plum flavours, spicy and nutty characters adding complexity, and obvious potential for cellaring."
