Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"When Yalumba’s fifth generation vigneron Robert Hill Smith joined forces with Clare winemaker extraordinaire Jeffrey Grosset to create a new Eden Valley Riesling, it was clear this would be no ordinary wine. Born of occasional musings, the essence of the adventure is two of Australia's best known Riesling makers working together to elevate the status of both Riesling and South Australia’s Eden Valley.
The wine is green and vibrant in appearance, with aromas of zesty lemon and grapefruit. An intense and generous palate, with lively citrus fruit and hints of talc. The wine finishes clean and dry with refreshing, long acidity. As is the case with all great Eden Valley Rieslings, mesh will age gracefully and reliably into a mature wine under the Stelvin closure."
93/100 Toni Paterson, The Real Review, August 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"Gorgeous lemony flavours with excellent line and drive. Great purity and expression with the flavour building in the glass over time. Perfect with or without food. Take care not to over-chill."
90/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, December 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"The vinous marriage of Grosset and Hill-Smith (Robert of Yalumba et al) resulted in Mesh riesling, an instant star in the galaxy of fine rieslings. An homage to Eden Valley’s finest white grape. A leaner, juicier expression of riesling, limey, minerally, fresh feeling though a sense of ‘wateriness’ also plays a part in this wine. Great perfume does introduce the wine well and offers lime, lime blossom, wet slate and steely aromas. The ease of drinking is all here in this wine, but perhaps tension and extension of flavour, or velocity, is missing a touch. That being said, it’s a nice drinking experience."
Philip White, InDaly Adelaide, February 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"The 2017 wine is crisply citric, with those sharply-edged lemon blossom aromatic angles that seem pristine and fresh and mountain brookish. Below that sharp cleansing intro lies a bowl of healthy fresh juice that reminds me of biting into a nashi pear. Bright, clean and fresh to sniff, and similarly refreshing to drink, the wine seems perfect for today’s humidity: it triggers dreams of spicy Thai tucker at a hawker’s stall somewhere in the jungle. It’s cool. And cooling."
Winsor's Choice, Winsor Dobbin, winsorschoice.blogspot.co.nz, February 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"In these days of instant gratification, it is rewarding to come across a white wine that is constructed with longevity at least partially in mind. Mesh is a joint venture between Jeff Grosset and the Hill-Smith family of Yalumba and uses Eden Valley fruit to produce a wine that is certainly approachable now but will shine with time in the bottle."
