Matt Connell spent many years at the Akarua winery in Central Otago and produced a string of incredibly highly awarded Pinot Noir and has now taken the leap to go it alone. We have his debut releases in store and they are real beauties capturing the character and qualities of Central Otago perfectly – rich, complex and silken. The label for Matt’s Rendition Pinot was done in collaboration with New Zealand artist Andrew J Steel “who has succinctly captured the important elements of the quintessential me – ‘my meaningful things’”

“Rendition is a blend of Central Otago vineyards and subregions. My quintessential Central Otago Pinot Noir. The 2016 Rendition Cuvee is blended from ultra premium fruit sourced from Lowburn and Bendigo vineyards.
I enjoy the collaborative nature of winemaking and similarly I wanted to work closely with an artist who intrinsically understands and is able to visually render the creativity, fun and joyfulness I find in the process. For my first Rendition cuvee I was fortunate to be able to work with well- known New Zealand contemporary artist Andrew J Steel who has succinctly captured the important elements of the quintessential me – ‘my meaningful things’.
The nose shows a nice blend of darker fruit notes supported by violet florals. The palate is complex with good concentration, spice and a long and integrated finish.

“A blend of grapes from Bendigo and Lowburn districts, it is instantly appealing on the nose showing dark cherry, plum, clove and toasted almond characters with hints of game and floral. The wine offers loads of delectable fruit flavours with subtle savoury nuances, making it hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2021.”

“Ripe, dark cherry, plum, concentration, baking spices, crushed rose, red apple skin, iron filings, earth and dried herb. On the palate – dry and quite concentrated with flavours of dark red berry fruits and cherry, undergrowth, wood spice and red apple; fine to moderate tannins, plenty of acidity, minerality and lengthy finish. Very youthful example with loads of potential, vibrant, concentrated and complex. Best drinking from 2019 through 2029.”
