Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
“Each and every vineyard has a story to tell. Each single vineyard wine I produce is an attempt to give voice to its unique terroir and nuance of character and above all my love and commitment to Central Otago. Both gold and grapes from the schist-dominated soils of Bendigo have always been hard-won yet the resultant pleasures many-fold and enduring.
Dark fruit and spice on the nose while the palate is tightly wrapped with boysenberry and chocolate notes. The finish is long and supported by fine tannins and oak spice.”
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
“The powerful 2016 vintage was hand-picked and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (one-third new). It’s a rare wine – only 822 bottles were produced. ‘Serious’ but very approachable in its youth, it is powerful and fleshy, with very generous, ripe plum/spice flavours, finely integrated oak, excellent complexity, and the structure to mature well. Still youthful, it should be at its best 2019+.”
5 Stars & 96/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review (2016 Vintage)
“Dense, ripe pinot noir made from grapes grown on a moderately high altitude north-facing Bendigo vineyard. It has typically dense, ripe Bendigo flavours, with a distinctive wood-smoke character plus dark berry, cassis, dark chocolate, liquorice and nutty oak. Bold, youthful and moderately textural red with good development potential.”
5 Stars & 96/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, July 2017 (2016 Vintage)
“Sophisticated and plush at the same time, this striking pinot exhibits black cherry, blueberry, cocoa, cedar and violet aromas with nuances of truffle and black tea. The palate is superbly concentrated and flowing, and displays outstanding fruit purity as well as stylish oak infusion, wonderfully enhanced by layers of fine texture and loads of polished tannins. A meticulously composed pinot. At its best: 2018 to 2026.”
95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, August 2017 (2016 Vintage)
“Ripe, concentrated, complex and beguiling bouquet with a haunting complexity. Aromas are numerous with scents of ripe, dark red cherry fruit mixed with undergrowth, bracken, schist, mushroom, wood spices and a haunting core of concentration. On the palate – youthful, concentrated, warm, firm tannins with loads of chalky youthful textures, a back bone of acidity, black rose and fruit flavours reflective of the nose. A firm youthful palate that needs time to settle. Best drinking from 2020 through 2030+”
