A beautiful Barolo in a textural style. This Massolino is a powerful wine with beautiful depth, a fine structure and real finesse. Delivering harmony with charisma in the relatively masculine style of this area, Massolino commands and transports the palate. Will age well, but its balance and generosity will makes it decantable now with some rich red meat. Supreme!
94/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, August 2023 (2019 Vintage)
"Red and black fruit, almond, a little creamy and spicy, mint and floral perfume. Medium-bodied, rounded and fleshy, but fresh, tannin has has a gentle graininess, kind of succulent, but present and quite firm. Strawberry, a stony feel to it, and good length. Really lovely expression of Barolo. It carries the structure of 2019 to good effect, and should age beautifully."
94/100 Raffaele Vechhione, WinesCritic.com (2019 Vintage)
"Precise and cohesive, it shows notes of flowers and small red fruits. The splendid sensorial matrix offers nuances of currants, raspberries, cherries, cedar pieces and pomegranate. A very subtle presence of citrus dominates the secondary scene enriching the matrix. Full body, velvety tannins of very fine grain and a sunny and intense finish that closes leaving a remarkable fruity aftertasting on the palate. Better from 2025."
92/100 Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2022 (2019 Vintage)
"The 2019 Barolo is a very serious wine. Readers looking for an easygoing, entry-level Barolo will not find that here. Bright and sizzling with tannin, the 2019 is going to need at least a few years to fully come together. Crushed rocks, red/purplish fruit and dried flowers emerge with some coaxing, but this is really a wine for the cellar. It is also probably the most reticent straight Barolo I tasted for this report."
90/100 Aldo Fiordelli, Decanter, February 2023 (2019 Vintage)
"Massolino classically ages all their Barolos in large Slavonian oak vessels. Fully focused on rose and violet, with fresh watermelon and a citrussy note enhanced by cinnamon and rhubarb, this Barolo is deliciously complex and classic for Serralunga, with crisp acidity and firm tannins wrapped up in flowery notes, leading to a dusty finish."
17++/20 Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, November 2022 (2019 Vintage)
"Palish ruby. A subtle, lifted, cherry and cranberry nose dabbed with spicy oak notes and a hint of orange skin. Sappy, lively cherry fruit on the palate with a long, tannic grip on the finish. Fresh, long and elegant. Can be approached now."
