Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Little Beast is a small single vineyard tucked into the cool volcanic hilltops of Eastern Waiheke Island. Blessed with picturesque beauty and fruit of unique character; our privateering winemakers have ‘claimed’ the vineyard in the tradition of maritime prize law and hoisted their colours over it.

The 2016 Little Beast Chardonnay has aromas of golden fleshed stone fruit, green apple and baking spice and a floral lift. The palate is deliciously juicy with a sweet ripe entry, and a clean dry finish. Perfectly matched with roasted snapper or grilled scallops."

5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"An elegantly styled chardonnay, the bouquet shows grapefruit, white stone fruit, lemon peel and almond characters with subtle flinty complexity. The palate is focused and finely textured, and displays excellent mid palate weight and acidity, leading to a beautifully long, finely drying finish. Restrained yet persistent and engaging. At its best: now to 2020."

4 Stars & 17.5+/20 Raymond Chan, April 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Bright, even, light golden-hued yellow colour, paler on the rim. The nose is tightly bound and elegantly concentrated with aromas of white stonefruits entwined with nutty notes and a layering of gunflint and mineral complexities, along with subtle oxidative detail. The nose has good depth and fine intensity. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly bound with elegantly interwoven flavours of white stonefruits melded with layers of flint and mineral complexities, and nuances of nuts and oxidative hints. The palate is firm in expression with a fine, grainy phenolic line and fresh, balancing acidity lending drive. The wine has positive linearity and carries with good power to a long, tightly concentrated, lingering finish of white stonefruits, nuts and gunflint. This is a firm and tense Chardonnay with white stonefruit, gunflint and mineral flavours on a firm-textured, linear palate. Match with most white meat dishes over the next 4-5 years. Clone 15 fruit from the ‘Little Beast’ vineyard, hand-picked and WBP, and indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned 500 L puncheons to 13.2% alc., the wine aged in barrel with MLF conversion and bottling in Spring."
