From Waiheke Island & Ponui Island which lies just to the west of Waiheke. It is the Ponui portion that originally dictated the style of this Pinot Gris – the grapes can only be barged off the island when the tides are suitable and this also dictates picking times. This originally resulted in a late pick style which became hugely popular and is continued today. The aromas burst out of the glass redolent of apricots and ginger spice. The sweetness is balanced by fine acidity. Unctuous and delicious.

Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Named in tribute to Napoleon’s final place of exile where he was banished after his defeat at Waterloo. Exiled is awarded to our most prized Pinot Gris, made exclusively from the St Helena clone grown on our Ponui & Waiheke Island vineyards."

5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Powerful and sumptuous, this is reminiscent of a top-notch Alsace pinot gris. Gorgeous aromas of baked pear, mango, honey, warm spice and potpourri lead to a concentrated palate that is plush and delicious. It is wonderfully textured and magnificently fruited, brilliantly enhanced by elegant sweetness and juicy acidity, finishing persistent and creamy. Grapes were grown on their estate vineyards in Waiheke and Ponui Islands. Style: Medium. At its best: now to 2022."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"The 2017 vintage was grown on Waiheke and Ponui islands. Light yellow/pale gold, it is a medium to full-bodied wine, with fresh, concentrated peach, pear and spice flavours, a gentle splash of sweetness (21 grams/litre of residual sugar) and crisp, appetising acidity. Showing good vigour and intensity, it's enjoyable now, but also worth cellaring."

91/100 Cameron Douglas MS, July 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Rich and fruity bouquet with baked pear and apple core, honeysuckle and spice note. A layer of non-fruit aromas centre on the the use of lee and perhaps some skin contact. Just off-dry on the palate showing some initial sweetness then transitioning into a drier finish. Weighty with a light creamy texture and back palate tension, moderate acidity and lengthy finish. Drink now and through 2020."

4 Stars & 17.5+/20 Raymond Chan, May 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, lighter on the rim. The nose is a little restrained in expression, but unfolds gentle voluminous aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits melded with a little honey and musk, building to form a moderately concentrated, rounded core, unveiling subtle nutty notes. Medium in sweetness and medium-bodied, the palate has a moderately rich and luscious heart with flavours of yellow stonefruits along with exotic florals, honey and musk. The mouthfeel exudes a degree of unctuousness and is balanced by fresh, lacy acidity. The flavours show good presence and carry softly to a gentle finish. This is a moderately luscious medium Pinot Gris with yellow stonefruit, floral and honied flavours with some unctuousness and richness. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3+ years. Fruit from Ponui Island and Waiheke Island fermented with light solids in tank to 12.5% alc. and 21 g/L RS."
