Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"Settled weather during December provided optimal conditions for flowering. A very hot summer then enabled the grapes to ripen beautifully. Free draining stony soil helped mitigate the effects of some late summer rain, and the ensuing dry autumn meant the fruit was able to be picked in excellent condition.
Upon release it is deep ruby in colour. The nose is brimming with vibrant red fruit including plum, raspberry and cherry. There are also hints of spice, vanilla and chocolate, with some underlying savoury notes. The wine is mouth-filling, yet balanced with plush velvety tannins, refreshing acidity and a prolonged finish."
93/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, June 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"Fleshy, almost juicy pinot noir with ripe plum liquorice, black cherry, anise and spice flavours. A fruit-focused, appealing and accessible red that offers good value at this price."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"It's gorgeously fruited and perfumed on the nose showing dark cherry, raspberry, warm spice, vanilla and roasted nut characters. The palate displays excellent weight and fruit intensity, together with silky texture and soothing mouthfeel, making it immensely appealing. At its best: now to 2024."
92/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, August 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"Dark cherry, plum skins, spice, dark chocolate. It’s medium-bodied, but has impact, plenty of dark skinned fruit plus a kind of bitter chocolate/tamarillo thing layering in some savoury complexity. Tannin is sure, and there’s a pleasant sappy edge to it, allied to warming richness of fruit. Finish is good. Comes over as quite serious and complex, and drinks very nicely."
5 Stars Yvonne Lorkin, September 2020 (2018 Vintage)
"I’m going to make a call right now and suggest this is one of The best value pinot noirs available in the country right now. Incredibly plush, plucky and packed solid with cherry, raspberry, rhubarb flavours, buckets of spice, tantalising tannins, sneaky black tea layers and fabulous length of flavour, make this an unputdownable pinot noir that’ll absolutely wow the crowds. Ripe, robust and romping home with awesomeness."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"A consistently rewarding, great-value red from Pegasus Bay. The 2016 vintage was grown at Waipara. Matured for 18 months in French oak barriques, it is bright ruby, fragrant and supple, with generous, plummy, slightly nutty flavours, well-integrated oak adding complexity, and lots of current-drinking appeal. As good as many $35 Pinot Noirs, it should be at its best mid-2020+."
92/100 Nick Stock, JamesSuckling.com, October 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"A ripe and brambly pinot with earthy and herbal notes, arranged with ripe blueberries and red plums. The palate has a punchy, direct and long frame of tannins carrying deep and rich flavours of cherries."
Cameron Douglas MS, November 2019 (2016 Vintage)
"What a lovely bouquet of Pinot Noir with cherry and red apple, dried raspberry and limestone soil aromas. Mild to moderate toasty wood layer with some clove and vanilla. A dry wine on the palate with flavours of plum and tart cherry, dried raspberry and dried herb. Quite textured with tannins and acidity contrasting the fruit and wood flavours. Overall well made with medium+ (ish) length. Decant for service with best drinking today and through 2021."
