Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"The fruit, from the Waipara Valley in North Canterbury, was picked over three weeks to give a range of exciting fruit flavours. We used traditional Burgundian winemaking methods, including fermentation in small vats by the grapes own microorganisms and ageing in French oak barriques for 18 months.

It has a complex array aromas and flavours suggesting red and dark fruits. Impressions of raspberries intertwine with blackberries, black cherries and purple plums. These are supported with hints of vanilla pod, chocolate, sandalwood and spice. While rich and powerful, its mouth filling tannins are fine grained and velvety. After swallowing, the lingering flavours are accentuated by a hint of freshly crushed root ginger."

92/100 James Suckling (2014 Vintage)
"An attractively integrated and quite focused pinot noir that has dark cherry fruit aromas and flavours at its core. Supple tannins. Bold but beautiful."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2014 Vintage)
"A consistently rewarding, drink-young style from Pegasus Bay. The 2014 vintage was grown at Waipara. Matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (20 per cent new), it is deep ruby, full-bodied and fresh, with strong, plummy, spicy flavours, savoury notes adding complexity, and a finely textured, persistent finish. Still youthful, it's an age-worthy red, offering great value."

4 Stars & 17.5+/20 Raymond Chan, June 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"Dark, deepish ruby-red colour with light garnet hues on the rim. The nose is light and elegant, with tightly bound aromas of savoury dark-red cherry fruit along with a fine layering of dark and dried herbs forming a tight core. Subtle notes of florals and earth unfold, showing the beginnings of secondary development. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a lively core of concentrated savoury dark-red berry fruit melded with dark and dried herbs and subtle earthy detail. The fruit is sweet and the palate is mouthwatering with fresh, underlying acidity. The wine flows with good energy and drive following a fine-grained, textured line, leading to a lingering finish of savoury red fruits and dried herbs. This is a lively and rich Pinot Noir with savoury dark-red fruit and dried herb and earthy detail on a fine-textured palate. Serve with mushroom risotto, coq au vin and game meat dishes over the next 4 years. Waipara Valley fruit indigenous yeast fermented with 25% whole bunches to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 10% new French oak barrels."
