The 2016 vintage in North Canterbury was very favourable and dealt the ideal hand of high quality coupled with good quantities. Main Divide Chardonnay always punches well above its weight and the latest release is yet another beauty offering crowd pleasing style, concentration and complexity. And value… bang for buck, it's hard to beat!

Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Throughout the region, crop levels were somewhat higher than expected but judicious thinning of the fruit, a perfect summer and a warm dry autumn enabled the grapes to be harvested with excellent flavour development and physiological ripeness.

The colour is intense lemon with aromas of peach, citrus (grapefruit) & tropical fruit (pineapple). There are also some underlying savoury notes of brioche along with a hint of nutmeg. In the mouth the wine is pleasantly concentrated and exhibits a creamy texture resulting from the lees contact. A tangy minerality complements its lingering dry finish."

92/100 James Suckling (2016 Vintage)
"A bold, ripe and very punchy take on chardonnay with ripe nectarine, peach and candied lemon flavours. Plenty of texture and build in the palate as well as some really attractive weight. A big, stridently flavoursome style."

4 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"The Main Divide range, from Pegasus Bay, is based on South Island grapes. The 2016 vintage is a blend of North Canterbury and Marlborough grapes. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for a year in old French oak barrels, it is light yellow/green, mouthfilling and generous, with ripe, peachy flavours, balanced acidity, considerable complexity and a slightly creamy finish. Already drinking well, it should be at its best during 2018."

92/100 Cameron Douglas MS, May 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Distinctive and alluring bouquet of Chardonnay with a spicy barrel and ripe fruit aromas; roasted peach, overripe lemon peel, grapefruit and apple; vanilla and nutty  sweet oak moments. Dry, nutty, creamy and spicy, tasty and delicious. Fine oak tannins and medium+ acidity, vanilla and roasted stone fruit flavours with a fine mineral line squeezed through the middle. What's not to like! Drink now and through 2022."
