The 2019 vintage of Linke Stonewell Block Shiraz continues to be one of our most popular Shiraz. Understandably so, as no doubt about it, this is a BIG wine, an absolute feast of flavour yet with super smooth and luxurious tannins. It simply glides down while delivering oodles of long lasting power and flavour.
The Linke family first planted grapes in the Barossa in the 1930s and for the past 30 years have have supplied premium fruit for St Hallett and Langmeil since 1996. This is their private label taking fruit from the famed Stonewell Block vineyard.
The Linke’s are a 5th generation Barossa German family who started as farmers upon settlement. Now 3rd generation grape growers, Ted Linke having first purchased their ‘Stonewell Block’ in the 1930’s planting the families’ first vines. Since then Barry Linke has carried on the good work as well as expanding vineyard holdings by purchasing the ‘Dorrien Block’ in 1988. Now a total of 75 acres with the majority of production in Shiraz naturally.
In 2000 Scott Linke joined the family business straight from school. In 2002 Scott decided to take a small parcel of fruit being just 2 barrels and so ‘Linke’ was born. The family has supplied premium parcels of fruit to St Hallets for just on 30 years and to Langmeil since they began in 1996.
From ‘Stonewell Block’ only. Vine age 22 years. Aged in older American oak for 18 months.
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, September 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"This is opulent and powerful, showing blackberry, cedary oak, dark cocoa, game and floral aromas, combined with sumptuous mouthfeel and velvety texture, finishing impressively long and gratifying. At its best: now to 2034."
