Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"The nose has lovely complexity with brioche, lemon, subtle floral notes, flint and smoky oak all present. They palate has gentle power with lovely focus. The predominant fruit character is lemon that is over laid with chary French oak and mealy wild ferment characters.

The grapes for this wine are from our Chaytors Road Vineyard where coastal see breezes moderate temperatures and allow gentle ripening. This block is situated on the banks of the Wairau Diversion where the silts and river stones are a perfect match for our 16 to 20-year-old Mendoza clone chardonnay vines.

These grapes were hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed. The juice was briefly settled before being racked to French oak barrels (25% of them new oak). The juice was allowed to ferment ‘wild’ and then encouraged to undergo full malolactic fermentation which softens the acidity from sharper malic acid to the softer lactic acid. The wine was racked from barrel and carefully blended prior to being bottled here at the winery."

Reviews for the 2016 vintage below…

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"Estate-grown in the Chaytors Road Vineyard, in the Wairau Valley, the 2016 vintage was fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barriques (25 per cent new), and given a full, softening malolactic fermentation. Bright, light yellow/green, it has a fragrant, slightly buttery bouquet. Mouthfilling and vibrantly fruity, with excellent depth, complexity and harmony, it's drinking well now, but should also reward cellaring. Good value."

Sue Courtney,, July 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Lemon yellow in hue with a full-on rich, fat, mealy, inviting Chardonnay scent then toasty and savoury in the mouthfilling palate that's layered with gunsmoke, spicy oak, lemon biscuit, peach and a touch of caramel and culminates in a long, dry, roasted nut finish."
