Trophy for Champion Gewürztraminer – New Zealand International Wine Show 2019
Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2019
There is almost always a long and ever growing list of accolades for Lawson's Dry Hills Gewürztraminer and once again it has picked up a Gold Medal at the NZIWS. As Michael Cooper says, it's "benchmark stuff".
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Very pale straw in colour while the aromas offer the classic, lifted potpourri florals with lychee and roses with a pronounced thread of fresh lemon. The palate is soft, round and luscious but with wonderful weight and depth. Turkish delight flavours add to the wine’s complexity and give way to ripe tropical fruits on the mid-palate while the finish has a pithy lemon character. Long, concentrated and highly memorable."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"One of the country's most impressive Gewürztraminers. Grown in the Home Block and nearby Woodward Vineyard, at the foot of the Wither Hills, it is typically harvested at about 24 brix and mostly fermented in stainless steel tanks; a key part of the blend (about 15 per cent) is given 'the full treatment', with a high-solids, indigenous yeast ferment in seasoned French oak barriques, malolactic fermentation and lees-stirring. The 2017 vintage (4.5*) is a perfumed, light lemon/green wine, mouthfilling, with concentrated pear and spice flavours, fresh and lively, showing a distinct touch of complexity. A very age-worthy wine, it's well worth cellaring to 2020+."
