Winery notes (2020 Vintage)
"Orphan Bank is testament to Langmeil’s commitment to preserving old and rare Barossa vineyards. Ten rows of Shiraz planted pre-1860 were saved from the developer’s bulldozer and replanted alongside the original Langmeil vineyard on the banks of the River Para. We called these ten rows the "Orphans" but after 150 years they have a new home.
A rich bouquet of red and blue fruits, herbs and cedar, entwine with hints of sage, roasty and savoury notes. Rich and juicy raspberry and Satsuma plum fill the mouth, with allspice sweetness adding to the mouthfeel. The fruit is well balanced with hints of briary spice and textural, fine-grained tannins on the lengthy finish."

5 Stars & 95/100 The Real Review, April 2021 (2018 Vintage)
"Deep, dense purple/red colour, with a reserved and mysterious spicy, earthy, graphite aroma, the palate similarly bright and fresh and richly loaded with dark plum and assorted spices, blackberry towards the finish, which is very persistent and satisfying. Truck-loads of fruitcake, raisin bread and panforte flavours. Deliciously sweet fruit core. A superb shiraz with lots more to give."
94/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, April 2022 (2018 Vintage)
"Ripe raspberry, plum, blackberry, sage and dried mint, with cocoa oak. It’s succulent and supple, a little tar, but juicy and quite lively, ripe chocolaty tannin, again that sage and mint adds some perfume, in with some more earthy/toasty flavours, the finish long and ripe. Plenty to get stuck into here, and a good expression of flavoursome Barossa Shiraz."
