The 2017 Land of Saints Red is a blend of 60% Grenache & 40% Syrah and full of juicy dark red and black fruits with savoury aromatics of black pepper and fresh herbs. Medium-bodied with great balance and fresh acidity, this will pair perfectly with any meat or veggies coming off of the grill.
The Grenache was fermented 40% whole cluster, whilst the Syrah was made by carbonic maceration. The wines aged separately in neutral french barrique before coming together in barrel.
Land of Saints is another project coming from a trio of highly talented individuals in the wine industry; Angela & Jason Osborne (A Tribute to Grace Wine Company) and Manuel Cuevas (C2 Cellars). The three decided to collaborate on this project after sharing harvest stories in 2013. Jason originally from Cornwell in Southwest England, Angela from New Zealand, and Manuel having Mexican-American roots, the three came together from three beautifully different corners of the globe to share their love of California and the many expressions of Santa Barbara County.
Having been lucky enough to work with and learn from an amazing group of local winemakers in both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, the three are now using their established relationships to source single varietals from organically farmed vineyards and offering them at an insanely low price.
The name 'Land of Saints' hails from the county of Cornwall in England which has a rich, ancient history. Around 410 AD the country entered a period known as the 'age of the saints' as holy people came and lived in this stunningly beautiful county. In the following centuries over 70 of them left their name as a legacy to the land, and as a result, Cornwall became affectionately known as the 'Land of Saints'. Jason loved the name from a holistic view and after moving to California, discovered an incredibly diverse and beautiful new place to call home; his Land of Saints.
