5 Stars & 98/100 Winestate Magazine
From the Clare Valley, South Australia and based in the historic Enterprise Brewery building – itself a listed heritage building and a major landmark of the Clare township – Knappstein is a familiar name re-establishing itself under changed ownership a few years ago.
With the winemaking under the guidance of senior winemaker Michael Kane and Mike Farmilo (Formerly chief red winemaker at Penfolds), the Shiraz and Cabernet wines are making their mark.
A fulsome Clare Valley Shiraz that is not too over-the-top and absolutely delicious.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"The 2019 Shiraz is full of brambles and blue/black fruits with a spicy lift. Layers of brooding dark fruits, spice and savoury characters are framed in fine oak. The sinewy tannin profile pulls the wine through to a long and moreish finish."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2021 (2019 Vintage)
"Upfront and immediately appealing, the wine shows Black Doris plum, floral, almond and olive characters with a light touch of pepper spice. It's juicy and beautifully rounded on the palate offering generous mouthfeel and a lengthy silky finish. At its best: now to 2029."
