72% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon

This is unbelievable buying on a full-bodied Hawkes Bay red from a great vintage and it comes complete with a nice bit of bottle age.

The Kim Crawford Small Parcels wines are, as the name suggests, small batch wines that reflect their site and quality .. or as the blurb says.. 'each wine is a rare, handcrafted world class gem'. This is a blend of 72% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Corner 50 Vineyard in the Redmetals district of Hawkes Bay.

Sue Courtney, (2013 Vintage)
"Inky blackcurrant red in the glass looking so youthful for its 5 years of age. The bouquet is positively creamy with a chocolate box scent that recurs in the soft fine-tannined palate where pencil box oak and graphite frames the mellowing fruit that’s an amalgam of plums and bramble berries with just a smidgen of mint that adds brightness. 2013 is one of the greatest vintages ever in Hawkes Bay and this stellar wine is an absolute steal."

92/100 Natalie McClean (2013 Vintage)
"A rich, supple New Zealand red wine blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon grapes grown on vines planted in warm region in the Hawkes Bay thus the more full-bodied and flavourful style."

93/100 Jane Staples, Sommelier (2013 Vintage)
"Very fragrant ripe blackberry, cassis aromas lead into a richly-flavoured fruity palate with blackberries, blueberries, juicy red plums, vanilla, cloves and subtle oak. Silky tannins and a lingering fragrant finish-outstanding! My Desert Island red."

4 1/2 Stars Rod Phillips,, February 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"This is an attractive blend that's 72% merlot and 28% cabernet sauvignon drawn from a warm district within the Hawkes Bay region. There's plenty of fruit on nose and palate, and you'll find it well structured and showing good complexity. The acid-fruit balance is very good, lightening the fruit and giving freshness, while the tannins are still firm. You could hold this another year or so to give it time to knit a little more, but you can as easily drink it now. I would hold it no longer than the early 2020s."
