From the Gourmet Traveller Wine Winemaker of the Year 2021 comes this benchmark Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Always hugely popular, it is a 'go-to' wine for many and its success is based on Jules' passion for the variety having crafted some of the most successful Sauvignon Blancs over many years. 2021 is no exception.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
"The fruit for this wine was grown in the Taylor Pass, Lower Wairau, Hawkesbury and Awatere sub-regions of Marlborough, avoiding the main Wairau Valley floor sites.
Intense, vibrant aromas of passionfruit, lime zest and lemongrass leap from the glass, supported by notes of freshly crushed herbs and a touch of wet-stone minerality. This upfront, in-your-face drop captures the essence of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Passionfruit and lime zest flavours combine with mouthwatering intensity and juicy acidity, giving way to a long, zesty, lip-smackingly good finish."
Rated Outstanding & 95/100 Cameron Douglas MS, June 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Powerful, fragrant, intense, deeply floral and varietal. Aromas and flavours of pink grapefruit, fresh red and green apple, crunchy yellow peach, fresh mango and lemon. Fresh basil and a touch of sage, salivating acidity with a salty edge and fine satin texture on the finish. Great balance and length, purity of fruit and power. A delicious wine that all fans of SB will love. Drink upon purchase and through 2025."
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Fabulously fruited and instantly appealing, the wine shows feijoa, kiwifruit, Granny Smith apple and lime peel aromas, followed by a powerfully expressed palate delivering terrific fruit purity and persistency. A stunning rendition filled with delicious flavours. At its best: now to 2025."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2021 Vintage)
"Designed as an "upfront, in-your-face drop", the 2021 vintage was grown at sites in the lower Wairau, Awatere and Southern valleys. Bright, light lemon/green, it is highly aromatic, with strong, vigorous, tropical fruit and herbaceous flavours, dry (2.2 grams/litre of residual sugar) and crisp. A 'full-on' style, it's Marlborough in a glass."
4 ½ Stars Yvonne Lorkin, June 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Get set for a whack and a wallop of passionfruit, pea pod, capsicum, basil and lime on the nose, followed by jumbo-loads of sensationally squinty acidity and tropical tension on the palate. It’s a fresh, herbaceous crowd-pleaser with flavour for days."
5 Stars & 18.5/20 (93) Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, June 2021 (2021 Vintage)
"Bright, even, pale yellow with a slightly green hue. The nose is distinctively aromatic, softly full nuances of lime, pineapple, gooseberries interweave tomato vines, white peppercorns, underlying elderflowers. Medium-light bodied, aromas of pineapple, lime and gooseberries have a bright core, elderflower adorns. The subtle herbaceous aroma of capsicum, tomato vines added interest and complexity, along with a hint of white peppercorns. The acidity is soft and smooth flowing, rounded by a touch of sweetness. This is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with ripe fruit flavours and varietal characters. Match with green-lipped mussels and lemon sole over the next 3 years. The juice was inoculated with aromatic yeasts, cool-fermented to 13.6% alc, 2.2 g/l RS."
