Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"This Pinot Noir exudes intense blackcurrant aromas with dark juicy fruits; black dorris plums, boysenberries and blackberries. A pleasant hint of violet is layered over subtle vanilla and chocolate notes. The palate is bold yet intriguing, this Pinot noir exhibits wonderfully intense fruit flavours with cranberry, pomegranate and blackcurrant seamlessly balanced with soft, velvety tannins providing nuances of dark chocolate and black tea. For optimum flavour decant for 20 minutes"
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, June 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Sensuous, seductive and sophisticated, this gorgeous pinot exhibits dark berry, plum, clove and floral characters with nuances of cedar and truffle. The palate is concentrated and striking, and displays outstanding mid palate weight and silky texture, backed by seamlessly woven fine tannins. This is engaging and charming with a persistent, gratifying finish. At its best: now to 2022."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"The 2016 vintage was grown in the Meadowbank Vineyard, on the south side of the Wairau Valley, and barrel-aged for 10 months. A powerful, fruit-packed red, it is deeply coloured and full-bodied, with impressive depth of ripe, plummy, slightly spicy flavours, well-integrated oak and fine-grained tannins. Still very youthful, it should flourish with cellaring; open 2019+."
4 Stars & 18.0+/20 Raymond Chan, June 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Full, very dark purple-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. Youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly proportioned with tightly bound and concentrated aromas of ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit, unveiling notes of blackberry liqueur and liquorice, and subtle hints of complexing mineral reduction, with nutty and charry oak suggestions. The aromatics grow in depth and intensity with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is richly concentrated with ripe and sweet fruit flavours of blackberries and black cherries entwined with dark-red berry fruits. along with layers of liquorice, dark-red and violet florals and a complex amalgam of minerally reduction and nutty oak elements. The rich fruit is encased by fine-grained tannin structure with integrated acidity, and the wine carries to a solid, dense finish of black fruits and minerals. This is a ich and intensely concentrated black-fruited Pinot Noir with subtle notes of reduction on a fine, firm-structured palate. Match with grilled game meat dishes and casseroles over the next 6-7+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Meadowbank’ vineyard, in the Taylors Pass district, destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 33% new French oak."
