A new import from French wine specialists Maison Vauron who have this to say… "We first met Jean-Baptiste when he did a vintage here in New Zealand with Georges Michel in Marlborough. He had already spent time with his second cousin Nicolas Rossignol, in the Côte de Beaune, moving onto Vieux Télégraphe in Châteauneuf du Pape and the great Haut Brion before joining his father back in Beaune for the 2014 vintage. It was during this time that it became clear that he and his father wanted to go in different directions and mutually decided that Jean-Baptiste should continue on his own.
They divided some of the family plots and 2015 became his first vintage, with a modest 3 hectares of Bourgogne Rouge, Pernand Vergelesses Blanc (villages and 1er Cru Sous Frétille), Pernand Vergelesses Rouge 1er Cru Les Fichots and Aloxe-Corton.
Soft-spoken, focussed and ambitious, we look forward to enjoying many more vintages from Jean-Baptiste."
Grapes from three different plots in Pernand’s two side valleys were brought together to make this cuvée. Colour is pale lemon-gold, aromas are bright and fresh, palate is rich and racy. This is a wine with body as well as fruit concentration, where natural acidity chimes in beautifully with impressive flavour-length.
