Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"The Sauvignon Blanc 2017 was harvested from two BioGro certified organic Estate Vineyards. The Huia home block has well draining alluvial river-run soils. The sandy silts and stones supply excellent drainage and retain the suns heat overnight which contribute to the grapes ripe tropical characters. The Winsome vineyard soil is clay base mixed with black sand. Hotter days and cooler nights in this location create floral elderflower aromas along with red bell pepper and lime based mineral flavours. The grapes were pressed with the different vineyards being kept in separate vessels. A thirty percent portion was fermented in neutral French oak to add further richness and complexity to the wine.
This wine shows a good aromatic intensity with bright floral floral note of elderflower and lime blossom. The wine is layered with flavours ranging from guava, melon, gooseberry and lime zest. The palate has definite mineral notes balancing the ripe acidity and myriad of fruit and flower flavours. This uplifting Sauvignon shows an excellent length and depth on the palate, simply delicious in the glass."
Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"Powerful aromas of red and black fruits overlay a base note of dried herbs, spice and cedar. The flavour profile is a combination of savoury and spice, with rich and ripe flavours, all with precise pinot noir detail. Tannins are elegant and silky, leaving a lasting impression of texture, concentration and not least; the definitive Southern Valleys of Marlborough clays character."
97/100 IWSC 2019 (2015 Vintage)
"Lovely deep colour. Great intensity of fruit and forest floor notes leap from the glass. The palate adds smoke, spice and lovely savoury hints. Very well structured, with great harmony and balance from the fresh acidity and well-handled tannins. Long complex finish."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2018 (2015 Vintage)
"It is sweetly fragrant on the nose showing dark cherry, spiced plum, mushroom and thyme characters with nuances of smoked game and floral. The palate is wonderfully fruited and rounded, displaying excellent fruit purity together with seductive spicy/savoury undertones, brilliantly complemented by velvety mouthfeel and silky tannins. At its best: now to 2020."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2015 Vintage)
"Offering good value, the 2015 vintage was hand-harvested in the Somerset and Gum Emperor Vineyards, in the Southern Valleys, and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques. Deep ruby, with a fragrant, slightly spicy bouquet, it is mouthfilling, with generous, ripe cherry, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent complexity and harmony, and a supple, very harmonious finish. Best drinking 2020+."
