Winery notes (2023 Vintage)
"In Te Reo Maori, Waihonga translates to nectar. The Pinot Gris for this wine comes from friends at On Giants Shoulders vineyard. A touch of Riesling has been added for balance, hailing from Grava vineyard. 100% destemmed, fermented on skins for 26 days. Every second day the cap of the ferment was plunged under the fermenting juice. Natural fermentation, full malolactic, unfiltered, unfined, with 50ppm SO2 added.
This wine boasts a honey-hued color and aromas of nectarines, baked spices, and tangelo skin. It offers concentrated flavours with refined, long tannins—fruity yet profound, reminiscent of Golden Queen peaches."

"‘Waihonga’ in te Reo Maori translates to ‘nectar’. Made with Pinot Gris fruit this wine delivers a bouquet and palate of yellow stone fruits, apricots and peaches, the myriad texture from acidity and tannins. Some of the fruit flavours have a nectarine and melon sweetness, some caramelization qualities and a mineral note. Well made with a lengthy texture driven finish. Best drinking from 2024 through 2026+."

"Amber in name and in appearance, this soft, fleshy and dry amber hued wine is made from 88% Pinot Gris with 12% Riesling which adds noticeable freshness with its zesty hallmark acidity. This brings balance to the ripe quince flavours and complex textural qualities from malolactic fermentation."
