Gold Medal – New Zealand International Wine Show 2020
This is outstanding Sauvignon Blanc. You could say it's an enhanced rendition of New Zealand's favourite variety. Naturally fermented for six months in French oak barrels with wild yeasts. Partial malolactic fermentation contributes complexity through the palate with rich fruit expression. The wine was naturally settled in barrel post fermentation, then blended and bottled on site without fining. The resulting wine shows fantastic richness on the palate yet it retains a lithe freshness throughout.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Ripe peach, apricot and nectarine flesh aromas with delicate floral highlights. Palate is generous with luscious fruits, creamy texture and a defined finish. Well-rounded, structured and unique style.
Fermented in aged barriques with wild yeast for greater complexity, using a mix of Loire and Bordeaux clones, allowed to age on lees and for partial malolactic ferment to lend it creamy texture and richness. No additions made during fermentation. Unlike any other Sauvignon from New Zealand. Certified Organic with Bio-Gro NZ."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2019 Vintage)
"Certified organic, the distinctive 2019 vintage was fermented and aged for eight months in seasoned French oak barriques. Bright, light yellow/green, it is fleshy and finely textured, with concentrated, ripe, non-herbaceous flavours, showing impressive complexity and harmony, and a rich, rounded finish. Currently delicious, it's ageworthy too."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"A gorgeously complex style; the fragrant bouquet shows golden apple, fig, green tea and subtle flinty characters. The palate delivers excellent weight and concentration, superbly enhanced by textural mouthfeel and bright acidity, leading to a lengthy engaging finish. At its best: now to 2025."
5 Stars & 18.5/20 Candice Chow for Raymond Chan Reviews, June 2020 (2019 Vintage)
"Bright, medium yellow with depth and a green hue, even colour throughout. The nose is soft and elegant, lush stonefruit of peach, white nectarine, melded with fresh herbs, fresh-cut grass and subtle phenolic spices. The wine is complex and delicately presented; light-bodied with depth and concentration. Vibrantly bright acidity carries flavours of fresh lime, lemon, fresh herbs with a dusting of white peppery spices, lingers with stonefruit on the finish. The palate is creamy with nuances of yoghurt along a fine-textured line of chalky minerality. This is a fresh and vibrant barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc with complexity; showcasing the bright acidity with flavours of citrus, stonefruit and fresh herbs; underlying yoghurty creaminess, peppery spices and a fine chalky texture. Match with smoked whitefish and pork cheek croquettes over the next 3-5 years. 100% wild fermented in old French barriques to 13% alc. 50% MLF, aged 8 months in barrels. Vegan. BioGro organic certified."
