I think we all know that local wine heroes Greystone produce some of the best Pinot Gris that New Zealand has to offer and now Decanter 'The world's best wine magazine' are telling us they produce some of the best Pinot Gris in the world! Bravo

Winery notes (2016 Vintage)
"Light golden in the glass, the nose an array of cloves, pear, marzipan, honey dew and orange zest. A substantial and powerful palate, initially smooth rounded stone-fruit, progressing to a core of chalky phenolic, expanding into a very long pure finish. Wonderful now, especially with food, or age for four plus years."

No.3, World's Best Pinot Gris Buys, Decanter, May 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Sappy, stony hints over quiet oak: a limey warmth behind. deep and pure, with apple and lime richness, a minty freshness and a lick of honey, held in a dry frame. accomplished and finely judged. Proof that Pinot Gris has a fine-wine future in New Zealand."

5 Stars & 95/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, June 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Dry, tasty and textural pinot gris with ripe pear, toast, apple and brioche flavours. A classy wine that includes a portion of barrel fermented and matured wine to add a pleasing texture and additional layers of flavours."

5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"From their estate vineyard, the wine was partially fermented in barrels with lees maturation. The wine is filled with attractive apricot, baked pear, rockmelon and spice characters with nuances of almond and oatmeal notes. The palate delivers excellent concentration and expansive mouthfeel, backed by rich texture and seamlessly integrated acidity. This dry pinot gris is extremely long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2021."

5 Stars & 19.0/20 (95) Raymond Chan, April 2017 (2016 Vintage)
"Bright straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is full, broad and voluminous with deep and rich aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits along with nuances of tropical fruits and exotic florals, nuances of honeysuckle, and steel, mouthwatering minerals. Subtle complexing nutty lees elements emerge with aeration. Dryish to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has richness and weighty flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits along with subtle tropical fruit elements, exotic florals, unfolding honied notes. Mineral and nutty detail add interest. The palate has weight, body and presence, but retains a degree of elegance with integrated acidity, the wine carrying smoothly along a fine line, leading to a full, lingering, dry finish of rich stonefruits and exotic florals. This is a rich-fruited dry Pinot Gris with layers of exotic fruits, florals, honey and minerals on a palate with strong presence and length. Match with pork and veal dishes, and Asian cuisine over the next 4-5+ years Fruit from a sloping single block with wind-blown loess over clay with limestone deposits, fermented in tank with 10% indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned French oak to 13.5% alc. and 6.0 g/L RS, the blended wine undergoing batonnage for 6 weeks. 2,300 cases made."

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"The stylish 2016 vintage is a slightly off-dry style (6 grams/litre of residual sugar), estate-grown in the Omihi Vineyard and mostly handled in tanks; 10 per cent of the blend was fermented with indigenous yeasts in old French oak barrels. Light lemon/green, it is mouthfilling and richly varietal, with generous, ripe stone-fruit and spice flavours, a slightly oily texture and a lasting finish."

91/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2016 Vintage)
"Spice, almost to pepper, peach and lychee. Glycerol feel, bold flavour, all ripe pear and tropicals, subtle powdery texture to close. Perfume trails in aftertaste. Classic kind of NZ in style, to generalise. "
