Local heroes and star North Canterbury winery Greystone consistently produce one of New Zealand's very best Pinot Gris.

Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"This dry-style Pinot Gris comes from a single block of vines on the Greystone Vineyard. The grapes grow on calcareous clay soils which leads to a Pinot Gris with inherent minerality and richness. A portion of the wine was aged on yeast lees for four months before estate bottling without fining."

Reviews for the 2017 vintage below…

5 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"At its best, this is one of the finest Pinot Gris in the country. Estate-grown, it is mostly handled in tanks; a small portion of the blend (15 per cent in 2017) is fermented with indigenous yeasts in old French oak casks. The 2017 vintage is a pale straw, ripely scented wine, fleshy, with highly concentrated stone-fruit and spice flavours, a hint of ginger, good complexity, a creamy texture, and a dry (4 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. It's already delicious. Certified organic."

5 Stars & 18.5/20 (93) Raymond Chan, November 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"Bright, even straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues. The nose is softly rich and concentrated with well-packed aromas of white and yellow stonefruits along with honied notes and yellow florals, and a suggestion of spice. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has soft, rich flavours of white and yellow stonefruits and subtle notes of honey and exotic florals. The palate has a rounded and unctuous texture with balanced, integrated acidity, underlined by some alcoholic power and drive. The wine flows smoothly to a lingering finish of stonefruits and honey. This is a softly rich and unctuous dry Pinot Gris with stonefruit, honey and floral flavours with good drive and smooth flowing linearity. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-4 years. Fruit picked over 4 passes, fermented in tank with 15% in seasoned French oak puncheons and barriques to 13.5% alc. and 4.1 g/L RS, wine aged 4 months on lees undergoing batonnage. Certified AsureQuality organic."

92/100 Cameron Douglas Master Sommelier (2017 Vintage)
"Fragrant, varietal and pure with abundant fruit and spice aromas of Gris – honeysuckle, peach, white peach and quince. On the palate – equally engaging with a core of tree and white fleshed stone fruit flavours; some residual sweetness and plenty of acidity bring balance and a long harmonious finish. Drink now and through 2022."
