Trophy for Champion Pinot Gris – New Zealand Organic Wine Awards 2019
Gold Medal – New Zealand Organic Wine Awards 2019
Selected for the 2019 Fine Wines of New Zealand List
Local heroes and star North Canterbury winery Greystone consistently produce one of New Zealand's very best Pinot Gris.
Winery notes (2018 Vintage)
"This dry-style Pinot Gris comes from a single block of vines on the Greystone Vineyard. The grapes grow on calcareous clay soils which leads to a Pinot Gris with inherent minerality and richness. A portion of the wine was aged on yeast lees for four months before estate bottling without fining."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2018 Vintage)
"At its best, this is one of the finest Pinot Gris in the country. Estate-grown, it is mostly handled in tanks; a small portion of the blend (5 per cent in 2018) is fermented with indigenous yeasts in old French oak casks. Already delicious, the 2018 vintage is a pale straw, sturdy (14.5 per cent alcohol), powerful wine, with highly concentrated stone-fruit flavours, a vague hint of honey, and excellent complexity and harmony. Made in a medium-dry style (12 grams/litre of residual sugar), it's certified organic."
94/100 Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review, February 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"The aroma reminds me of freshly-baked apple pie with a seasoning of cloves. Weighty pinot gris with an initial hint of sweetness that is perfectly balanced by fruity acidity and fine, peppery tannins. A classy wine that is good now but no rush."
90/100 Cameron Douglas MS, February 2019 (2018 Vintage)
"Embracing and exciting bouquet of Gris – aromas and flavours of organic heirloom pears, white pepper, baked apple goods and wild flowers. Just dry with some residual sweetness contrasting the warming alcohol, medium+ acidity, weighty with fine to pure fruit flavours. A leesy spice layer adds complexity and depth. Well made and ready to enjoy. Drink from today and through 2021."
