Golden Child is the project of young yet experienced winemaker James Hamilton. Using grapes grown by his father David from his own vineyard in Kuitpo in the southern Adelaide Hills, James uses his wealth of winemaking experience to bring the wines to bottle.
Having their own 20+-year-old vineyard gives the Hamiltons enormous flexibility with the wines and allows James to craft some pretty unique offerings. The fruit is all hand-picked, fermented with natural yeasts and crafted together gently and with minimum additions. The range is wide, colourful and wholly enjoyable.
Winery notes (2019 Vintage)
"Hand picked Cabernet Sauvignon, whole berry fermented then aged in used Hogs Head barrels for twelve months. This wine is highly perfumed with intense flavours of red currants, purple fruits and cracked pepper. This is pretty, new school Cabernet with mouth-watering tension and restrained use of oak. This wine is vegan friendly and was bottled unfiltered with minimal additives.
Hand-picked Cabernet Sauvignon (picked early for freshness) was whole berry fermented wild for twenty five days on skins then basket pressed to used Burgundy Hogs Head barrels for twelve months maturation in oak. Racked once for bottling without fining or filtration."

"Golden Child is the project of father-and-son team, David and James Hamilton. David grows the grapes in his vineyard in Kuitpo in the southern Adelaide Hills, while his son James (often jokingly referred to as the ‘golden child of the family’) shepherds the wines into the bottle. Crafted in a juicy, lightly-styled, lo-fi manner where fresh herbaceous aromatics and lush blue and black fruits combine with cushion-like, elastic tannins and layers of soft tobacco and black pepper."
