Here's a beautifully aged gem from Glasnevin in Waipara. Noble Riesling is the perfect thing to get a bit of age on and to be able to pick up a 750ml bottle of top quality dessert wine with seven years on the dial, for under $40, we are very lucky indeed.
Winery notes (2011 Vintage)
"This is our debut late pick Riesling. The fruit was 75% infected with botrytis at the time of harvest. A long, slow fermentation has produced a wine which is luscious upfront on the palate and balanced by a long citrus finish."
5 Stars & 93/100 Bob Campbell MW, February 2013 (2011 Vintage)
"Moderately sweet Riesling with a gentle, silken texture and appealing bush honey and apricot / tree fruit flavours. Perfectly balanced by fruity, integrated acidity. Classy Riesling that’s deliciously drinkable now but should age well."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, December 2011 (2011 Vintage)
"A luscious sweet wine displaying honey, marmalade, dried apricot and subtle spice notes on the nose. The palate is gorgeously sweet (160 g/l), but not excessively, with excellent mid palate weight and rich texture, finishing succulent and long. This gorgeous sweet wine shows the classic Riesling vibrancy with lovely botrytis influence (75%), making it utterly delicious."
4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper 2015 (2011 Vintage)
"The 2011 vintage is a refined dessert wine, from grapes late-picked at Waipara with 75 per cent botrytis infection. It is rich, citrusy and slightly spicy, revealing a gentle botrytis influence, plentiful sweetness (160 grams/litre of residual sugar) balanced by appetising acidity, and a very harmonious, long finish."
