Barry Johns' Glasnevin label has plenty of fans here at Vino Fino including this nicely aged, ready to enjoy Gewürztraminer. This is a fairly full-on style being very concentrated, richly flavoured, weighty and complex. There's loads going on and it has more than enough to keep the most ardent lovers of exuberant Gewürztraminer very happy, especially at this price!

Winery notes (2011 Vintage)
"Fermented and matured for 6 months in seasoned French oak barriques, the wine is richly perfumed and weighty. The bouquet is distinctly spicy; the palate full bodied with strong, ripe lychee, pear and spice flavours, gentle sweetness and excellent complexity. Absolutely delicious."

4 ½ Stars Michael Cooper (2011 Vintage)
The 2011 vintage is a richly perfumed, weighty wine (14.5 per cent alcohol), harvested at over 26 brix and matured for six months in French oak barriques. The bouquet is distinctly spicy; the palate is full-bodied, with strong, ripe lychee, pear and spice flavours, gentle sweetness (15 grams/litre of residual sugar), excellent complexity, and a long, well-spiced finish.

4 Stars & 18.0+/20 Raymond Chan, February 2012 (2011 Vintage)
"Fruit from the ‘Fiddler's Green' vineyard on Georges Road, hand-picked and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc. and 15.3 g/L rs, the wine the aged a further 6 months in seasoned French oak barriques. Bright straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues, light on rim. This has a very concentrated, intensely packed nose of tropical fruits, Turkish Delight, ginger, caramel and musk in a complex amalgam. Medium-dry to medium, rich and complex flavours of caramel, tropical fruits, herbs and ginger fill the mouth, forming a concentrated core. Round, oily textures and restrained acidity add and unctuous richness enhancing the breadth and depth of flavour. The palate has an underlying firmness, and the finish is sustained, with bold, burnished, near bitter flavours of brown spices and ginger. This is a firmly rich and complex-flavoured Gewurztraminer to match with flavoursome pork dishes, pates and terrines, and with Middle Eastern cuisine."
