Giesen The Brothers Chardonnay has long been a mainstay at Vino Fino as it offers some of the best Chardonnay value on the market today. Perhaps the inclusion of a good chunk of fruit from the famed Clayvin Vineyard is the secret but the winemaking obviously plays a part too.
The 2021 Brothers Chardonnay is showing great appeal with citrus and stonefruits in a full bodied, concentrated style that is nicely layered with perfectly judged oak, savoury complexity and a nutty creaminess kept in balance by a subtle flinty minerality. Still fairly youthful at present, it responds well to air and opens up into an immensely satisfying, crowd pleasing style with power, finesse and length.
Winery notes (2021 Vintage)
Aromas of ripe peach, toasted hazelnut, vanilla and brioche. The palate is rich and concentrated with flavours of lemon zest, apricot and grapefruit, and a delicious buttery finish
The fruit was picked then immediately pressed at the winery. Juice then settled overnight before being racked to tank and having yeast added ahead of transfer to oak barrels. The wine was fermented then matured in predominately French oak barrels for 10 months, with 17% new oak and the balance seasoned 1, 2 and 3 year old barrels. This selection was to ensure the wine had balanced toasty oak character which allowed the fruit to shine. The wine was fined and filtered for bottling."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, February 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"It's beautifully expressed on the nose showing ripe peach, rockmelon, vanilla and roasted nut aromas, followed by a rounded palate that's wonderfully textured and lingering. The wine offers structure as well as upfront delectable flavours, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2025."
