A big 'well done' to The Brothers, not only did this delicious Chardonnay take out the Trophy for Champion Chardonnay but it was also awarded the much coveted Champion Wine of the Show at the Royal Easter Show 2019.

Giesen The Brothers Chardonnay has long been a mainstay at Vino Fino as it offers some of the best Chardonnay value on the market today. Perhaps the inclusion of a good chunk of fruit from the famed Clayvin Vineyard is the secret but the winemaking obviously plays a part too as Giesen Chief Winemaker Nokolai St George was also crowned Winemaker of the Year at the Easter Show.

The 2017 Brothers Chardonnay is showing great appeal with citrus and stonefruits in a full bodied, concentrated style that is nicely layered with perfectly judged oak, savoury complexity and a nutty creaminess kept in balance by a subtle flinty minerality. Still fairly youthful at present, it responds well to air and opens up into an immensely satisfying, crowd pleasing style with power, finesse and length.

Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"We use fruit from our world renowned Clayvin vineyard as well as from premium vineyards throughout the Wairau Valley in Marlborough.

Early in the growing season we determine which grower vineyards will have the best Chardonnay fruit best suited for The Brothers Chardonnay and we work with them in managing those blocks throughout the season. We pick early to maintain natural acidity that Marlborough is famous for.

Striking aromas of hazelnut, hot rock, grilled stone fruit and brioche, combine with a multi-layered, succulent and focused palate to create a wine with great depth and character."

REWSA 2019 Judges (2017 Vintage)
"Complex and layered, with savoury oak, lees notes and white peach, beautifully structured with lingering flavour, length and minerality."

93/100 Cameron Douglas MS (2017 Vintage)
"A bouquet showing complexity, ripeness of fruit and enticement from oak, lees and a flinty mineral-like layer from clever winemaking. Dry on the palate with a great texture once again from attention to detail using lees and oak, fluffy solids and ripe fruit. Flavours of fuzzy white peach, apple and lemon. Well placed use of oak, vibrant texture, freshness and a lengthy finish equal a well made and enticing example. Drink now and through 2024."

4 Stars Yvonne Lorkin, April 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Chardonnay lovers ahoy! This new vintage of a Marlborough favourite is heaving with fresh, toasty oak that wraps itself around the core of grapefruit, pineapple and peach perfectly, just like one of those ballerina cardigans. Fresh, generously tropical, bursting with character and has a sexy, caramelized spice note to the finish. Yum!!"

90/100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, June 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Almost peppery in its delivery of spice, melon and pear, slight cedar wood thing. Barely ripe pineapple, dusty spicy texture, some savoury elements a chalky finish of decent length. Goes all right. Like its slightly edgy texture and spiciness."
